Department:Organizational Development

Reports To:Senior Manager of Organizational Development

Range:$70,000-$80,000 annually

Travel:Up to 25% required to perform essential job functions

FLSA:Exempt

About the Role

United Petroleum Transports is building its Organizational Development function from the ground up, and we are looking for an Instructional Designer & eLearning Developer who wants to be part of our foundation.

We are looking for someone who can take documents, messy PowerPoint decks, outdated processes, subject matter expert conversations, policies, procedures, or operational needs and turn them into clear, practical, engaging, innovative eLearning experiences. Much of this work will focus on building blended and/or online courses and LMS-ready learning content, primarily using Articulate Rise and other eLearning tools.

The right person will bring creativity, instructional design expertise, eLearning development skill, drive, confidence, and initiative. This person should be comfortable working through ambiguity, asking smart questions, organizing complex information, and creating learning that helps people do their jobs better.

What this role is: a hands-on instructional design and eLearning development role focused on building online courses, blended learning, digital learning modules, job aids, assessments, and LMS-ready learning content.

What this role is not:this is not an administrative, classroom teaching, training coordination, coordinating role, graphic design, payroll, HR administration, quality assurance, technical writing, or copywriting role.

This role is best suited for someone who is proactive, self-assured, and results-driven. The ideal candidate takes initiative without being prompted, drives toward outcomes even when the path is unclear, and brings both creative energy and disciplined attention to their work. They are equally effective working independently for long stretches on complex builds and engaging confidently with stakeholders and team members. They thrive on variety, move with urgency, and are proud of what they produce.

What You Will Help Build

In this role, you will design and develop learning solutions that strengthen performance across the organization, including safety, compliance, operations, onboarding, leadership development, professional development, and enterprise learning initiatives.

  • eLearning courses, blended learning approaches, and digital learning modules
  • Storyboards, scripts, outlines, and course structures
  • Knowledge checks, assessments, scenario-based activities, and learner practice opportunities
  • Job aids, handouts, facilitator guides, and blended learning materials
  • Multimedia learning assets, screen recordings, short-form learning content, and simple visual resources
  • Feedback loops, LMS data reviews, and continuous improvement cycles that keep content accurate, current, and effective over time.
  • LMS-ready courses that are tested, organized, accurate, and learner-friendly
  • Performance-focused learning recommendations that clarify whether the need is training, communication, process clarity, coaching, or another performance solution
The Person Who Will Thrive Here

You will likely enjoy this role if you are creative, energized by building, improving, and solving. You do not need every answer handed to you before you begin. You know how to ask the right questions, organize the work, and move ideas into action.

  • Takes initiative and owns the work
  • Enjoys variety and can manage multiple priorities
  • Works independently while collaborating closely with others
  • Communicates with confidence, clarity, and professionalism
  • Consults with SMEs and respectfully challenges unclear requests
  • Thinks beyond "make a course" and asks, "Is training actually the right solution here - and if so, what does success look like?"
  • Likes building something meaningful from the ground up
  • Brings energy, curiosity, and practical creativity to the work
  • Balances speed, quality, accuracy, learner experience, and business need

Our Organizational Development team is small, growing, and highly collaborative. This person will be an important peer within the team and will help shape how learning is designed, developed, delivered, and improved across the enterprise.

Required Experience
  • At least two years of instructional design experience developing eLearning, online courses, digital training modules, or LMS-based learning content.
  • At least two years of hands-on experience with Articulate Rise or similar eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Lectora, Camtasia, Captivate, or comparable platforms.
  • Working knowledge of instructional design methodology, adult learning principles, learning objectives, content sequencing, learner engagement, and assessment design.
  • Experience creating storyboards, course outlines, scripts, knowledge checks, job aids, assessments, facilitator materials, or other structured learning deliverables.
  • Familiarity with LMS course publishing, testing, SCORM, xAPI, or similar digital learning standards.
  • Ability to consult with subject matter experts, business leaders, and internal stakeholders to translate complex or incomplete information into clear, learner-friendly learning content.
  • Strong writing, organization, attention to detail, and project ownership.
  • Professional communication and facilitation skills.
  • Experience with LMS testing, basic accessibility-aware design practices, multimedia development, video editing, or screen recording tools.
  • Experience designing learning for safety, compliance, transportation, field operations, logistics, manufacturing, or other operational environments is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ADDIE, SAM, design thinking, action mapping, Kirkpatrick, Phillips ROI, or similar design/evaluation approaches.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve efficiency in content development, research, storyboarding, drafting, prototyping, or workflow organization.
