Job description

We are seeking a Human Resources Director to join our team and serve as an essential strategic partner on our Executive Committee, shaping the very essence of our culture. In this role you will report to the Hotel General Manager and be responsible for fostering unity and teamwork among our talented associates.

Part of the Milwaukee-based Marcus Hotels & Resorts portfolio, HOTEL PASEO offers guests a distinctive desert retreat featuring 150 thoughtfully designed guest rooms and suites, many showcasing breathtaking views of the San Jacinto Mountains and palm-lined landscape. Guests can unwind by our resort-style pool and on-site spa, explore the area on complimentary bicycles, and enjoy inspired dining at Larkspur Grill, Lemon Drop Pool Bar or Cafe Paseo. Located along world-renowned El Paseo, our boutique hotel places guests steps from premier shopping, art galleries, acclaimed restaurants, and vibrant nightlife while serving as the perfect gateway to Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley.

What will you be doing?

  • Oversee all areas of Human Resources administration. This includes but is not limited to associate relations, recruiting and onboarding, training and development, benefit administration, leave of absence, workers compensation, policy compliance, culture building, and community involvement. 
  • Provide guidance on associate relations issues such as investigations, coaching/counseling, and policy enforcement. 
  • Recommend, evaluate and support Marriott and Marcus Hotels' brand training and development programs, as well as remain current with industry trends in order to make necessary enhancements.
  • Facilitate annual goal setting, performance reviews, salary increases, and bonus payouts for all eligible associates.
  • Develop annual budgets for salaried labor and HR operating expenses. Ensure expenses are forecasted correctly on a monthly basis. 
  • Act as a member of the Executive Committee. Understand how to best support operational departments by working closely with your peers. 
  • Serve as a strategic partner who helps develops high potential leaders and advocates for their progression. 
  • Champion associate recognition and service excellence programs such as employee of the month, celebrating positive guest surveys, encouraging cross-departmental appreciation, and continuing to elevate service standards. 
  • Ensure communication of and compliance with all policies, standards and practices, as well as federal, state and local legislation pertaining to employment law. 
  • Provide Human Resources generalist oversight related to compensation practices, benefit plans and administration, leave of absence administration, workers compensation administration, as well as safety and security compliance.
  • Other duties as needed.

What should you bring to the role?

  • 5 to 8 years of total HR experience, including responsibility for talent acquisition, associate relations, training, benefits, etc.
  • 3 to 5 years of proven HR leadership experience, preferably in a hotel or hospitality setting
  • Deep knowledge of California labor laws, employee relations strategies, workers' compensation, and HRIS/payroll systems
  • A highly visible, approachable, and hands-on presence, with a deep passion for supporting the teams that deliver world-class guest experiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with all levels of the organization
  • Budget management experience highly preferred
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft (HRIS) and/or Taleo Enterprise (ATS) helpful
  • Past Marriott brand experience would be ideal but not required
  • Spanish bilingual preffered
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a related field
