Director of Data Analytics and Information

The Director of Data Analytics and Information (DAI) will help the Dean, Engineering Cabinet, and Engineering Leadership Team with data-driven decision making and strategy for complex and dynamically evolving needs ranging from student access and success to faculty, graduate students, research, entrepreneurship and tech transfer. Work closely with the Dean and Cabinet members to gather and plan top priorities and develop proposals for executive leadership. Supervise the Data Analytics and Information team to manage a myriad of projects and tasks, meet deadlines, and mitigate scheduling conflicts while maintaining a high level of quality. This is a dual level posting where the hiring manager will determine the level commensurate with the education and experience of the chosen candidate.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Manage the Data Analytics and Information team in the Dean's Office and oversee development and submission of reports, such as the ASEE data reporting.
  • Set team goals and manage priorities and stakeholder communication.
  • Personally undertake reporting or analysis tasks and projects.
  • Lead assessment and adoption of new additions to Purdue's data ecosystem, e.g. Academic Analytics (AcA), on behalf of, or partnering with, the Cabinet.
  • Coordinate the new annual peer benchmarking updates using AcA and other external data sources.
  • Lead the team's internal peer-review process of new dashboards to maximize functionality and quality, best practice adoption, and end-user experience.
  • Represent the Dean at the University’s Executive Data Council meetings.
  • Develop and mentor team members including conducting annual reviews, hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Serve on the Engineering Leadership Team.
  • Work closely with the Dean, Dean's Cabinet, and the Engineering Leadership Team (ELT) to both help shape the questions that need to be answered with data and help to interpret the data to find solutions to complex projects.
  • Work closely with the Dean, Engineering Cabinet, and Finance leadership to craft executive-level reports, proposals and strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with college priorities.
  • Support and coordinate large Dean’s Office projects and operations improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure internal constituents (the Engineering Cabinet, ELT, DAI, and Communications and Marketing teams) are aware of reporting needs and timelines.
  • Conduct SWOT analyses as needed.
  • Act as the primary contact with the college’s market research firm: manage the partnership contract, manage the firm’s work queue by providing requirements and assessing quality of their deliverables, coordinate with schools to weave in their market research needs into the firm’s work queue.
What We're Looking For

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in informatics, computer science, or other data-related field
  • Seven (7) years of experience in an information, business computing, or business intelligence field with a history of increasing responsibility and influence; designing and building reports and dashboards for non-technical audiences; and making operational improvements across an organization

Skills needed

  • Program and project management and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to think analytically.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to and influence senior levels in the organization required.
  • Ability to lead large projects, on short time lines, with participation from all levels of the organization.
