Job description

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1.Performs routine duties on an as-needed basis as required by supervisor in 

caring for residents. Must be able to work in multiple areas as your 

responsibilities are that of a Universal Worker.   

Bathing:Residents are bathed according to the bath schedule at least 3 

times weekly. 

Dressing:Residents are assisted in dressing, which may require some 

lifting of residents for putting on pants, shirts, etc. Residents are 

assisted with putting on and taking off braces as needed. 

Hair Care:Hair is combed daily and shampooed with bath or at the beauty 

shop per individual schedule. For male residents, beards are 

shaved, trimmed, shampooed and combed daily. 

Oral Hygiene:Residents are assisted with oral hygiene, including dentures at 

least after every meal.  This may require assisting residents with 

teeth brushing and may require bending and reaching. Fresh 

water will be placed in the denture cup daily. 

Nail Care:Finger and toenails are trimmed and filed with baths and cleaned 

as needed.  For diabetic residents, obtain Nurses’ assistance with 

nail care. 

Toileting:Residents are assisted as necessary with toileting. Incontinent 

residents are checked and/or toileted every 2 hours during 

working hours. Incontinent care is promptly given after every 

incontinent episode. 

Mealtimes:Food plates are served, and residents who need assistance and 

help during meal times. Nourishing food is served to residents as 

directed by the Executive Director.  All staff are responsible for 

cleaning the kitchen, doing dishes and leaving the kitchen clean.

Housekeeping:Responsible for cleaning of resident rooms, common areas and 

other areas of the house.   

Laundry:Responsible for doing resident laundry, towels, sheets and other 

items as directed by supervisor. 

Kitchen:Responsible for cooking all meals as assigned. Must follow food 

service protocol when preparing meals.  Meals    are  served    at    8a, 

12n,   and   5:30pm.      Snacks   are   served   at   10a,   2pm   and   7   pm.    

2.Observe Changes in Residents 

Any changes in resident skin, appetite, behavior or actions will be reported to the 

charge nurse. Observe all diabetic residents closely. These observations are 

important to the resident’s care and well-being and aid the nurse in evaluating the 

resident and in formulating his/her care plan, assuring needs are met. 

Observations to be reported and/or documented as indicated: 

A.Signs of Illness 

▪Rise in temperature 

▪Vomiting or diarrhea 

▪Listlessness or lethargy 

▪Headache or dizziness 

▪Poor color 

▪Behavioral changes 

B.Changes in general condition: 

▪Pressure areas; open areas 

▪Falls, cuts, or abrasions 

▪Unusual discharges or bleeding 

▪Edema 

▪C/o pain or discomfort 

▪Change in bowel or bladder habits 

▪Change in physical abilities 

▪Change in appetite – difficulty in chewing or swallowing 

▪Slurring of speech (sudden onset) 

▪Sudden or frequent mood swings 

▪Visual or hearing problems 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: 

▪Grammar school is essential. High school or equivalent preferred. 

▪Previous experience preferred. 

▪Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering simple 

treatments and providing bedside care. 

▪Ability to follow verbal directions
