The Associate, Global Markets Business Control is part of the Capital Markets Operational Risk and Resilience (CM ORR) unit within the CM Risk and Regulatory Service (RRS) group. The candidate will report into the Director, Operational Risk & Resilience, Global Markets to drive the Operational Risk & Resilience mandate.

The CM ORR team, as part of the first line of defense, provide internal control support to help Global Markets mitigate Non-Financial Risk (i.e., Operational Risk, Business Continuity Management) . The Associate will interact directly with Global Markets stakeholders, including senior executives, to methodically resolve risk management challenges across a continuum that ranges from simple day-to-day risk issues to highly complex business or regulatory issues. As part of the Capital Markets Office of the Chief Operating Officer, the CM ORR unit operates at a quick pace with exceptional quality and high expectations as such the role requires the same pace coupled with high-quality execution of deliverables.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Operational Risk (40%) - Execute the Operational Risk framework and program requirements for GM to mitigate risk of loss resulting from inadequate internal process, people, and system controls.

Process Risk & Control Library: Support the trigger update of GM PRC Library to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Operational Risk Assessment: Support the annual Product/Service, Process Risk Assessment (PSPRA) for GM business units.

Risk Analytics & Reporting: Develop and maintain risk analytics, dashboards, KRIs, and management reporting to provide actionable insights into emerging risks, control weaknesses, operational losses, and resilience exposures.

Targeted Process and Control Review (TPCR): Support process improvements to reduce operational risk and losses by identifying vulnerabilities, strengthening controls, and driving efficiency opportunities. Partner with Global Markets businesses, Corporate Support Areas, and control functions to assess risks, evaluate control effectiveness, and support practical mitigation strategies.

Operational Risk Event (ORE) & Issue Management: Log any GM ORE/Issue in GRCE in a timely and effective manner.

Projects and initiatives: Support and execute on any short/long-term Operational Risk projects and initiatives (i.e., Regulatory/Audit Remediation) that that impacts GM, as required.

Stakeholder Engagement & Executive Support: Prepare executive-level materials, risk summaries, management reporting, and presentation content to support discussions with senior management, regulators, auditors, and governance committees.

Business Continuity Management (60%) - Implement the Business Continuity program for GM to maintain business continuity documentation and facilitate business continuity testing.

Business Continuity Documentation: Responsible for Business Impact Assessment (BIA), Business Continuity Plan (BCP), and Risk Assessment (RA), documentation updates across all GM business units.

Quality Assurance: Partner effectively with enterprise Resilience and Integration (R&I) to aid in Quality Assurance (QA) Review process completion.

Business Continuity Testing: Participate and facilitate Disaster Recovery (D/R), third party/vendor/industry testing, Alternate Work Area, and BCP Walkthrough.

Projects and initiatives: Support and execute on any short/long-term BCM projects and initiatives (i.e., Regulatory/Audit Remediation) that impacts GM, as required.

Operational Resilience: Support the identification and assessment of critical business services, dependencies, vulnerabilities, and resilience capabilities to strengthen Global Markets' ability to withstand and recover from disruptions.

  • Build positive stakeholder relationships within Capital Markets and across Corporate Support Areas to garner support, advice and partnership that enables execution of the role.

Education/Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Economics, Finance and/or relevant background.
  • Graduate degree or professional designations in related discipline would be an asset.
  • 5+ years of Banking/Financial Institution/ Management Consulting experience with relevant Business Risk exposure, including, but not limited, to Operational Risk, Business Continuity, Regulatory Compliance, Cyber Security, Third Party Risk, Technology Resiliency, Legal, AML, etc.
  • Demonstrated technical understanding of Capital Markets products, services, and systems.
  • Knowledge of the various risks and controls associated with Global Markets trading business activities.
  • Good understanding of the regulatory landscape and industry practices with respect to Operational Risk, Business Continuity Management, and Operational Resilience
  • Experienced in and effective at responding to and dealing with significant problems and crises.
  • Advanced Office Suite proficiency, such as, Co-Pilot, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Power BI and Visio, etc.

The salary range for this role is $100,000 up to $105,000 CAD (subject to the candidate meeting the specific skills, experience, education, and qualification requirements)
