Job description

Are we the road to your future?

We are currently searching for an experienced Traffic EIT to support our Gulf Region located in Brentwood/Nashville, Knoxville, or Chattanooga, TN. Candidates must be willing to relocate to Tennessee if out of state.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Assist with preparation of technical reports for traffic impact studies, interchange access requests, or safety studies
  • Assist with development of traffic impact studies, land use planning, master plan studies, traffic signal warrant studies, bikeway planning and design, community and campus planning, technical report writing
  • Work on temporary traffic control plan/traffic management plan (TMP) and signing, pavement marking plans
  • Work on traffic signal design plans for new intersections and signal modifications to facilitate multimodal accommodations
  • Assist in preparing conceptual intersection layouts, schematics, signal timings and engineering reports
  • Assist with and prepare roadway design plans
  • Attend project meetings with clients
  • Learn project budgets to meet financial metrics
  • Potential to learn and participate in business development activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

What you need to have:

  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • EIT (E.I) Certification is preferred
  • 2 - 4 years of experience
  • Experience with transportation planning, including comprehensive corridor analysis, local programs, public involvement, safety and access, pedestrian and bicycle planning, multimodal planning and traffic operations are desired but not required
  • Familiarity with DOT traffic design standards, MUTCD and AASHTO
  • Familiarity with traffic analyses software such as VISSIM, Synchro/Simtraffic, Sidra Intersection, HCS are desired but not required
  • Experience with OpenRoads Designer is desired but not required
  • Self-starter and capable of completing tasks with minimal oversight
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written
  • Willingness and motivation to curate and eventually develop personal client base
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver’s license
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
