Job Summary: Special Education Intensive Intervention Teacher
  1. Qualifications:
    1. Valid Indiana certification for the teaching assignment and specialized training for the program area.
    2. Bachelor's Degree or higher in special education, licensure preferably in Mild Disabilities.
    3. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, teaching skills, problem solving skills, and willing to assist and support students.
  2. Responsibilities & Duties
    1. Assesses student academic, behavioral, emotional, and social needs; plans for, guides, and evaluates student learning and behavioral growth; communicates student progress to students, parents, and educational teams. Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal or designee.
    2. Provide direct instruction and support to high school students with emotional disabilities and significant behavioral needs in academic, social-emotional, and behavioral domains.
    3. Teach self-regulation, coping skills, emotional awareness, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and appropriate social interactions.
    4. Implement evidence-based behavior intervention strategies to improve student engagement, attendance, self-management, and school success.
    5. Modify and adapt curriculum, assignments, and instructional methods to meet individual student learning needs while supporting access to grade-level standards.
    6. Deliver instruction using individual, small-group, and co-teaching models as appropriate.
    7. Develop positive relationships with students and serve as a mentor, advocate, and support person within the school environment.
    8. Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
    9. Write measurable annual goals and objectives addressing academic achievement, social-emotional development, behavioral growth, executive functioning, and transition readiness.
    10. Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and collect behavioral and academic data to guide instructional decisions.
    11. Participate in case conferences, manifestation determination meetings, reevaluations, and IEP meetings with families and multidisciplinary teams.
    12. Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
    13. Utilize positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS), restorative practices, de-escalation techniques, and trauma-informed strategies.
    14. Provide crisis prevention, intervention, and support during behavioral incidents while maintaining student dignity and safety.
    15. Collaborate with school counselors, psychologists, social workers, administrators, and general education teachers to address student needs.
    16. Support students in developing self-advocacy, self-determination, and independent decision-making skills.
    17. Teach transition skills related to postsecondary education, employment, community participation, and independent living.
    18. Coordinate transition planning activities and assist students in identifying career interests, vocational opportunities, and postsecondary goals.
    19. Facilitate social skills groups, behavioral support groups, and other interventions designed to improve peer relationships and school adjustment.
    20. Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment that promotes emotional growth and behavioral success.
    21. Implement classroom routines, behavior support systems, visual supports, and individualized accommodations.
    22. Supervise and provide direction to instructional assistants and paraprofessionals supporting students within the program.
    23. Maintain accurate documentation including IEPs, progress reports, behavior data, service logs, and compliance records.
    24. Ensure compliance with IDEA, Article 7, district policies, and all state and federal special education requirements.
    25. Communicate effectively and professionally with families, staff, administrators, and community agencies.
    26. Attend required professional development activities, team meetings, and training related to special education, behavior support, and mental health.
    27. Demonstrate high standards of professionalism, ethics, confidentiality, and cultural responsiveness.
    28. Perform other duties as assigned.
    29. Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
