The Motor Fuels Tax Consultant (“Consultant”) works with a team to identify tax savings for clients and to gain an understanding of the client’s methodology for computing each component of fuels tax. This includes researching and analyzing federal, multi-state and local fuels tax issues, reconciling databases, and completing detailed calculations.

Duties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key Results
  • People: Create a positive team experience.
  • Client: Conduct written and verbal communication with clients and others.
  • Value: Research and analyze federal, multi-state and local fuels tax issues and communicate the analysis results to management.
  • Gather and enter data, and prepare fuels tax refund claims.
  • Use Microsoft® Access and Excel formats to prepare refund claims.
  • Pull and copy invoices to support refund claims.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Information Systems, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or other degree w/ Masters in Business Discipline or JD. Must have 9 hours of Accounting or the ability to substitute technical courses for accounting hours with a 3.0 GPA or higher, and a Major GPA of 3.25 or higher. One to three years related accounting and auditing experience required.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft® Word, Access, Excel, and Outlook and Internet navigation and research.

Certificates and Licenses

Valid driver’s license required.

The position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
  • Standard indoor working environment.
  • Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
  • Position requires regular interaction with employees at all levels of the Firm in person and via e-mail and telephone.
