Job description

Who We Are

At Newrez, we bring big thinkers and caring doers together to make home happen. We're a team built on heart and hustle, united by a commitment to show up for our customers, our communities, and each other. We believe that when our people thrive, homeowners thrive - and that's why we invest in your growth, wellbeing, and ability to make an impact.

Every day, we work to exceed the expectations of our residential mortgage borrowers and business partners through superior service, simple processes, and clear communication. We do this by empowering our employees, encouraging innovative solutions and recognizing great performance.

Primary Function

The Operational Controls SQL Developer is a talented, detail-oriented SQL Developer that contributes to the Data Integrity Management (DIMS) and Operational Controls Performance Management teams. The Operational Controls SQL Developer will extensively use systems knowledge and logical problem-solving to identify and automate the identification of loan exceptions and illogical conditions and create, manage, and maintain insightful department-level dashboards and executive reporting, with a strong focus on KPI tracking and performance monitoring. The individual will leverage creative thinking, optimal communication, analytic and project management skills. They have a background in SQL coding, a track record of developing high-visibility reporting, an eagerness to contribute to the overall organizational success with data-driven insight, and a moderate understanding of mortgage servicing.

Principal Duties

  • Define what the problem is, where it exists, and how it can be fixed.
  • Exhibit strong communication and listening skills, focused on interpretation of business requirements, and understanding potential obstacles with rule or control implementation.
  • Excel in a team-oriented, collaborative environment while contributing to the creation, design, and implementation of high-visibility value-add, loan exception, and business reporting and controls that ensures adherence to regulatory and investor requirements, operating practices, and company policy.
  • Collaborate with servicing departments to identify and understand existing business timelines, rules, and exceptions, ensuring accuracy and integrity throughout the process.
  • Create insightful dashboards using Tableau to assist leadership teams with business decision making, employee performance evaluation, KPIs/OKRs, and loan level exception & control reporting.
  • Leverage MS SQL Server data warehouse to source required and create trustworthy code logic used to identify loan exceptions and control flag populations.
  • Adhere to and recommend improvements to project coding standards, in-line QC, and stored procedure optimization.
  • Work in a team environment with shared code; disciplined use of source code control (TFS) and process documentation.
  • Assignment of high-visibility reporting projects related to regulatory, investor, compliance, senior leadership, or internal audit.
  • Be able to clearly articulate and present ideas and findings to a varied audience including the operational controls staff and senior management.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by management including but not limited to ad hoc reporting and cross-training.

*These essential functions are fundamental to the role, and must be performed on-site, as they cannot physically be performed remotely. In addition, the Company has determined that an in-person presence is important to critical components of our work, including oversight, training, collaboration, and productivity. Items not marked (*) as essential on-site, may still require partial on-site work to perform the role satisfactorily.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, mathematics, or related field.
  • 2-4 years' experience as a data or reporting analyst in a financial setting or related technical certifications.
  • 2-4 years in T-SQL stored procedure programming and optimization.
  • 2-4 years in Tableau dashboards & data visualization, or Associate-level Tableau Certification.
  • Mortgage industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with Tableau, Power Platform, Visual Studio, SharePoint, Python, R, and Visio a plus.

  • Proficiency of DQL, DML, and DDL T-SQL commands.
  • Proficient in Excel reporting & analysis (must know formulas, pivots, lookups, Power Query).
  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to multi-task, responds well to pressure and deadlines, and works well individually and in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong business communication skills with an ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
