About This Roleย 

The Director of Total Rewards leads the design and execution of compensation and benefits strategies that attract,ย retain,ย and motivate top talent across gyms, field,ย and corporate teams. This role drives scalable programs that support rapid growth, operational excellence,ย and organizational readiness, including experience in IPO orย publiccompanyย environments.ย This leader brings proven successย operatingย in large, multi-state retail or brick-and-mortar organizationsย similar toย ours, with 13,000+ employees, high-volume variable-hour deskless workforces, and leadership teams at various levels.ย

Reports To: Chief People Officerย 

Key Responsibilitiesย 

  • Support Board Compensation Committeeย activities andย materials,ย including peer group benchmarking, market data analysis, and proxyย statement Compensation Discussion & Analysisย contribution and draftingย for Named Executive Officersย 
  • Assistย with theย design and administration ofย long-term incentiveย compensation programs (such asย RSUs, stock options, ESPP, as well as cash-based LTI programs), including 409A compliance and cap table coordination with Legal and Financeย 
  • Design incentive and variable pay structures for aย multistate,ย deskless, high-turnover, variable-hour workforce, ensuring FLSA Regular Rate of Pay compliance across blended pay types (hourly, per-class, commission, bonus)ย 
  • Lead compensation andย benefitsย due diligence, harmonization, and integration for mergers and acquisitionsย 
  • Serve as a fiduciary or committee member for 401(k) and retirement plan governance,ย promotingย ERISA complianceย 
  • Conduct proactive pay equity audits and develop remediation strategies in partnership with Legalย 
  • Manage relationships with executive compensation consultants and market survey providers to ensure competitive, defensible pay positioningย 
  • Leadย the design, implementation, and governance of compensation programs that attract,ย retain, and motivate talent acrossย gymsย and corporate populationsย 
  • Partner with senior leaders to align compensation programs with business performance, career progression, and workforce planningย 
  • Provide strategic and operational oversight of annual compensation cycles, including merit, bonus, and equity programsย 
  • Serve as subject matter expert on market trends, pay transparency, regulatory compliance, and executive compensation alignmentย 
  • Support compensation strategy and infrastructure inย private, transitional,ย orย publiccompanyย environments, including governance, documentation, and audit readinessย 
  • Develop and execute aย multiyearย benefits strategy that balances cost management with team member health,ย wellbeing, and experienceย 
  • Reimagine how benefits are communicated, using clear, engaging education that connects programs toย reallifeย moments and decisionsย 
  • Use data, feedback, and analytics to evaluate program effectiveness and drive continuous improvementย 
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, brokers, and external consultants to manage plan design, funding strategies, and compliance across health, welfare, retirement, and ancillary programsย 
  • Represent Total Rewards with senior executives by providing clear, data-driven insights and recommendations, and designing systems to communicate incentive compensation goal progress, achievement, and related compensation statementsย ย 
  • Manage relationship with executive comp consultants as neededย 

Qualificationsย 

  • Experience designing incentive and variable compensation programs for commission-based, piece-rate, or variable-hour workforcesย 
  • Experience withย long-termย incentiveย compensation plan design, 409A compliance, and public-company disclosure requirements (proxy statements, CD&A)ย 
  • Proficiencyย with compensation planning and market data tools (e.g., ADP, Workday, Pave,ย Payfactors, Mercer, Salary.comย or WTW surveys)ย 
  • Experience supporting Board Compensation Committee processesย 
  • Bachelor's degreeย requiredย or equivalent experienceย 
  • Minimum ofย 7+ย years of progressive experience in Total Rewards, Compensation, or Benefitsย 
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience managing and developingย high performingย teamsย 
  • Foundational knowledge of multi-state employment law, training compliance practices, and reporting requirements across diverse regulatory environmentsย 
  • Demonstrated experience supporting organizations through IPO orย publiccompanyย readiness environmentsย 
  • Proven ability to apply data analytics to compensation, benefits, and workforce decisionsย 
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)ย required; Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or similar certification preferredย 
  • Ability to consult and influence at all levels of the organization, including senior executivesย 
  • Strong knowledge of compensation governance, compliance, and pay transparencyย 

Location & Work Environmentย 

  • Primarily remote role with flexibility to support teams across multiple states and time zones.ย 
  • Preferred candidate locations include Southern California or the Greater Phoenix area.ย 
  • Occasional travel will be needed for team connection,ย onboardingย and key business initiatives.ย
