Job description

Description:

We are seeking a skilled and versatile Excavator Operator to join our team. In this role, you will be a key asset on our construction projects, safely and efficiently operating a Case Excavator, as well as construction work when not operating the excavator. Because our projects span across the state, this position requires regular travel to jobsites throughout Florida and includes working over some weekends to meet project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Operation & Site Productivity
  • Precision Operation: Safely and efficiently operate compact and full-sized excavators, skid steers, track loaders, wheel loaders, and backhoes across various commercial job sites.
  • Site Preparation: Perform earthmoving, trenching, grading, and material stockpiling according to project blueprints and supervisor directions.
  • Attachment Utilization: Competently utilize various attachments (buckets, augers, trenchers, etc.) appropriate for the task at hand.
Preventative Maintenance & Safety Compliance
  • Pre-Trip Inspections: Conduct daily walk-around inspections and basic preventative maintenance checks (fluid levels, track/tire tension, greasing) to minimize field downtime and ensure safe operation.
  • Reporting: Maintain clear, accurate daily logs and promptly report any mechanical or safety issues to the shop mechanic team.
  • Safety First: Adhere strictly to OSHA, API, and company safety protocols to maintain a hazard-free work environment.
Job Requirements & QualificationsTechnical & Experience Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of proven experience operating an excavator in a commercial construction environment.
  • Skills:
  • Precision excavation around tanks and fuel piping
  • Reading plans and grade control
  • Underground utility awareness
  • Dewatering experience
  • UST installation knowledge
  • Finish grading capability
  • Strong trench safety practices
  • Strong spatial awareness and ability to safely navigate tight spaces, varying terrain, and active jobsites around underground utilities.
Certifications & Skills
  • License: Valid Driver’s License required. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A or B) is a major plus.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb safely onto heavy machinery, and work comfortably in varying outdoor weather conditions.
