Description

EXCAVATION LABORER

M.T. Laney Co. Inc. is an established successful construction firm located in Eldersburg, MD. We are searching for experienced, committed, career-minded Excavation Laborers to join our growing team to work in the Baltimore/Washington area.

The ideal candidate will be a team player who is highly motivated with a strong work ethic and desires to be part of a skilled construction team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of equipment and materials.
  • Assist in excavation by manually digs ditches using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes
  • Operate various hand tools
  • Cleans and prepares construction site to eliminate possible hazards
  • Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed
  • Maintain pumps, compressors, or generators to provide power for tools, machinery, or equipment or to heat or move materials
  • Ability to assist with the loading and unloading of equipment and materials
  • Operate assigned equipment in compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to understand verbal orders
  • Knowledge of construction knowledge as well as safety standards
  • Must comply with municipality requirements, specifications, safety standards, and company policies
  • Keen attention to detail and awareness to maintain the safety of the work environment
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Reliable transportation
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

SALARY/HOURLY EXEMPTION:

  • Full-Time, Non-Exempt Position
  • Salary based on knowledge and experience

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions that can include extreme cold, heat, and muddy conditions.
  • The work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that are typically associated with a construction project.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.

WORKING HOURS/EXPECTATIONS:

  • Ability to work more than 40 hours in any given week, including weekend assignments as required

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch on all different types of terrain.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, and standing
  • The employee is also regularly required to talk, hear, or smell as well as use hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on occasions.
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged amounts of time

EDUCATION:

High school or equivalent is preferred

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid Driver License preferred

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 1-year of construction experience preferred
