Position Summary

The Security Supervisor provides on-shift leadership for all security and safety operations at the Utah Valley Convention Center. This position is responsible for scheduling and supervising security staff, overseeing all shipping and receiving activity within the facility, and ensuring a safe environment for guests, staff, vendors, and clients. The Security Supervisor maintains and enforces security policies and procedures, coordinates the flow of information between the Security Manager, Event Managers, and the Operations Manager, and serves as the primary on-site contact for security matters during assigned shifts. This role requires strong situational awareness, leadership ability, and the capability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced public environment. Candidates must also demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively schedule and manage staff across a variety of events.ย 

This role will pay an hourly rate between $18.00-$20.00

About the Venue

Located in historic downtown Provo, Utah, the Utah Valley Convention Center opened its doors in 2012 as the premiere meeting space in Utah County. The UVCC boasts the perfect blend of modern architecture, flexible meeting space, and breathtaking interior and exterior views of the nearby Wasatch Mountains. This combined with its functional floor plan makes it the perfect venue to host any event.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate security staff during assigned shifts and events; serve as the primary on-site point of contact for all security matters.ย 
  • Conduct pre-shift briefings, assign posts, and communicate event details and expectations to security personnel.ย 
  • Assistย in coordinating the flow of information from the Security Manager to security staff.ย 
  • Prepare and distribute work schedules; review event resumes to build appropriate staffing plans for upcoming events. As well as post-shift reports to ensure accuracy.ย 
  • Maintain files of sign-in sheets for events and ensure all security logs are completed, including time, radio, and key logs and access records.ย 
  • Assistย with training new security staff on venue policies, procedures, and proper guest interaction.ย 
  • Monitor staff performance and provide coaching toย maintainย professional and service standards.ย 
  • Demonstrate basic computer proficiency, including the use of Microsoft Office suite and other scheduling or communication tools.ย 
  • Oversee all shipping and receiving items moving throughout the facility;ย logย all items entering and leaving the building.ย 
  • Coordinate with outside vendors to ensure proper load-in and load-out procedures are followed.ย 
  • Support operations staff during event move-in, event operations, and load-out activities.ย 
  • Monitor event activity areas as well as all entrances and exits.ย 
  • Perform routine patrols of the facility; lock and unlock doors and access points asย required.ย 
  • Ensure proper access control procedures are followed for staff, vendors, performers, and guests.ย 
  • Monitor entrances, exits, and credentialed areas to prevent unauthorized access.ย 
  • Inspect packages, meeting rooms, and other areas for the detection and prevention of violations of criminal law or company policy.ย 
  • Monitor and administer proper sign-in/out policies;ย monitorย the security system and report any abnormalities to the Security Manager.ย 
  • Maintain accountability for radios, keys, and other security equipment.ย 
  • Assistย withย monitoringย ofย surveillance systems and security equipment whenย required.ย 
  • Prepare and review incident reports for adherence toย establishedย standards; take corrective measures when necessary.ย 
  • Maintain a high degree of visibility and professionalism; respond to various situations, issues, and requests forย assistance.ย 
  • Respond promptly to all emergency situations, including disturbances, medical situations, safety hazards, or policy violations.ย 
  • Assistย in administering the facility's emergency preparedness programs.ย 
  • Assist with emergency procedures, including evacuations, lockdowns, and crowd management.ย 
  • Be knowledgeable of the location and use of emergency alarms and equipment; follow established procedures in the case of fire, disorder, orย otherย emergencies.ย 
  • Assistย emergency medical personnel by directing traffic, crowd control, and securing needed equipment.ย 
  • Observe theย general public; provide general information, directions, andย assistanceย to facility guests.ย 
  • Report suspicious behavior to the Manager on Duty or Security Manager.ย 
  • Provide excellent customer serviceย assistanceย to all internal and external clients.ย 
  • Establish andย maintainย effective working relationships with vendors, contractors, and all partiesย encounteredย in the course of work.ย 
Qualifications
  • Previousย experience in security, public safety, or law enforcement preferred.ย 
  • Supervisory or leadership experience in a security environment preferred.ย 
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.ย 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.ย 
  • Ability to interact professionally with guests, staff, vendors, and public safety personnel.ย 
  • Basic computerย proficiencyย required, including Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word.ย 
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and varied shifts based on event schedules.ย 
  • Ability toย observeย surroundings andย maintainย situational awareness in a busy public environment.ย 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.ย 
  • Mustย demonstrateย reliability, professionalism, and strong attention to detail.ย 
  • Must possess, or have the ability to attain, a Utah Driver's license.ย 
  • Ability to lift heavy objects as needed.ย
