Job description

Company Description Streamline Electronics Manufacturing, Inc. (SEM) is an industry leader in complex electronics design and manufacturing, serving customers from initial concept through finished product. With over 20 years of experience in Silicon Valley, SEM focuses on high-reliability, mission-critical systems including semiconductor ATE and burn-in boards, medical devices, telecom, networking, automotive, and industrial control. The company is known for its commitment to quality, offering a 100% yield guarantee and zero manufacturing defects. SEM provides comprehensive EMS services such as PCB layout and design, thru-hole and surface mount assemblies, BGA rework with x-ray inspection, mechanical assembly, functional and in-circuit testing, and on-site packaging and delivery, including quick-turn prototypes. Team members work in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment with a strong emphasis on precision and continuous improvement.

Role Description The BGA Rework Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Fremont, CA, responsible for performing precise rework and repair on BGA and other advanced electronic components. Day-to-day tasks include removing, reballing, and reattaching BGA devices, operating rework stations and related equipment, and conducting x-ray and visual inspections to verify solder joint integrity and compliance with quality standards. The technician will follow detailed work instructions, read and interpret technical drawings and PCB layouts, and document rework processes, results, and any nonconformities. This role collaborates closely with engineering and production teams to troubleshoot assembly issues, support prototype and production builds, and help maintain a clean, organized, and ESD-safe work environment. The position requires consistent adherence to safety procedures, manufacturing best practices, and SEM’s quality requirements.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on skills in BGA rework, including removal, reballing, and replacement, with strong soldering and de-soldering proficiency on surface-mount and thru-hole assemblies.
  • Ability to operate and optimize BGA rework stations, hot air and infrared equipment, x-ray inspection systems, microscopes, and other PCB assembly tools.
  • Competence in reading and interpreting PCB layouts, schematics, assembly drawings, and work instructions, with attention to detail in component placement and orientation.
  • Experience applying electronics manufacturing quality standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721 or similar), including inspection, defect identification, and rework documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for diagnosing soldering issues, thermal profiles, and assembly defects in complex boards.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in an ESD-controlled environment, following all safety, handling, and equipment procedures.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to read assembly drawings and BOMs.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 35 pounds, work in an ESD-controlled manufacturing environment, and perform repetitive tasks while following all safety procedures.

Work Environment

This position works in a fast-paced electronics manufacturing environment supporting high-mix, low-to-medium volume PCB assembly. Morning and evening shifts are available.

Equal Employment Opportunity

Streamline Electronics Manufacturing is an Equal Opportunity Employer and values diversity in the workplace.
