What is an Evening Relocation Nanny?

An Evening Relocation Nanny is a childcare professional who provides support to families during the evening hours, often when they are moving or transitioning to a new home or location. Their responsibilities may include supervising children, helping them adjust to new routines, preparing meals, and offering emotional support during the relocation process. These nannies are skilled at creating a stable, comforting environment for children amidst change. They may also assist with packing, organizing, and ensuring children’s belongings are cared for during the move. Families often hire relocation nannies to help minimize stress and maintain consistency for their children during periods of transition.

What are some common challenges faced by evening relocation nannies, and how can they be managed?

Evening relocation nannies often face the challenge of helping children adjust to a new home and routine, which can involve managing bedtime routines in an unfamiliar environment and supporting emotional transitions. Building trust quickly with both the children and parents is essential, as is maintaining consistency in care despite changing surroundings. Open communication with the family and flexibility in adapting to new settings are key strategies for managing these challenges effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Evening Relocation Nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Evening Relocation Nanny, you typically need experience in childcare, a background in early childhood education or a related field, and certifications such as CPR and First Aid. Familiarity with scheduling apps, communication tools, and sometimes knowledge of travel or relocation logistics is important. Strong organizational skills, cultural sensitivity, flexibility, and excellent communication help nannies build trust with families and adapt to new environments. These skills ensure the child’s safety, well-being, and smooth transitions during evening hours and relocation periods.

Job description

A family in New York City is seeking a candidate who has a strong background in early childhood education to support their school-age children. The schedule will be 30 hours per week guaranteed. This is a Monday through Friday role with hours generally being 2pm-8pm with occasional additional hours as needed. The family has three elementary school-age children who are in full-time school. This role is to provide support, structure, and assist with their education. The family would like the candidate to be highly educated, ideally with a background in early childhood education/development.

The parents feel strongly about developing the children's emotional intelligence, as well as broader values (i.e. be loving, be kind, be polite, be considerate, be gracious). The candidate must hold these same values and be aligned in philosophy. The children are very active and enjoy sports, and the parents would like the candidate to be like-minded, ideally with a focus on health and wellness.

The family prefers a live-out arrangement. They may relocate within the city in the future, so the candidate should be flexible with commute changes, as they are looking for longevity with their family. The role is to start as soon as possible, but they are willing to wait for the right person.

  • Always ensure the safety and well-being of the children, first and foremost
  • School pickup and structured care through early evening
  • Take the children to classes and activities after school
  • Organize activities that support their education
  • Collaborate with parents on the children's schedule/playdates
  • Teach/encourage manners and discipline
  • Ability to assist the children with their homework
  • Ability to encourage reading and language skills
  • Cook healthy and nutritious meals for the children and encourage healthy eating habits
  • Encourage/support the children's interest in music and various instruments

  • Serve as a role model and educator (not just nanny) for the children
  • Experience working in a similar role i.e. a Governess/Educator
  • A formal teaching background is a plus
  • Loving, kind and genuinely enjoys working/playing with children
  • Considerate, thoughtful and intelligent, with a good sense of humor
  • A second language is a plus
  • Willingness to travel with the family is a plus

  • Fluent English speaking
  • Hold a degree in a child-related field
  • US work authorization
  • Must be able to travel, if required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Experience with child development and education

  • Competitive hourly rate ($40+/hour)
  • Transportation stipend (e.g. MetroCard)
  • PTO
  • Sick days
