What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Evening Practicum Supervisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Evening Practicum Supervisor, you need a solid background in education, counseling, or a related field, often supported by a relevant degree and supervisory or teaching experience. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), student evaluation tools, and virtual meeting platforms is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, and the ability to provide constructive feedback help foster student growth and maintain a supportive learning environment. These skills ensure that practicum students receive quality mentorship and guidance, especially during non-traditional hours, contributing to their professional development.

How does an Evening Practicum Supervisor typically support students during after-hours placements?

As an Evening Practicum Supervisor, you play a vital role in guiding and supporting students who are completing fieldwork or practical training during evening hours. Your responsibilities often include providing real-time feedback, facilitating reflective discussions after shifts, and being accessible for urgent questions or concerns. You may also need to coordinate with daytime supervisors and academic staff to ensure continuity of support and proper assessment of student progress. This role requires strong communication skills and flexibility, as you often bridge the gap between students, site staff, and educational institutions outside of traditional working hours.

What are Evening Practicum Supervisors?

Evening Practicum Supervisors are professionals who oversee and support students or trainees during their evening practicum placements. Their primary responsibility is to provide guidance, mentorship, and supervision to ensure that practicum experiences are educational and align with program requirements. They may observe student performance, offer feedback, and help resolve any challenges that arise during evening shifts. These supervisors play a crucial role in bridging classroom learning with real-world practice, particularly in fields like counseling, education, or healthcare. Their presence helps ensure that students maintain high standards of professionalism and competence during non-standard hours.

Job description

InnerSourced Solutions is a CARF-accredited outpatient mental health center serving children, adolescents, and adults in Charles County and the Baltimore metro area. We are currently accepting applications from graduate-level students seeking a clinical practicum or internship placement for the 2026-2027 academic year.
We offer a structured, supervised clinical training experience within a school-based setting. Interns develop practical skills in individual and family psychotherapy, diagnostic formulation, treatment planning, and electronic documentation under the supervision of licensed clinicians.
Who We Are Looking For
We welcome applicants currently enrolled in an accredited master's-level program in social work, professional counseling, or psychology who meet the following criteria:
  • Active enrollment in a clinical practicum or internship course through your academic institution
  • Completion of graduate coursework in psychopathology, clinical diagnosis, and treatment planning
  • Willingness to commit to a minimum of 16 hours per week on-site, including at least 10 billable client contact hours
  • Availability for occasional evening telehealth sessions for family work, as clinically indicated
  • Ability to pass a criminal background and Child Protective Services background check
  • Proof of student malpractice insurance
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain it prior to placement

Note for counseling students: Applicants in a graduate Professional Counseling program are required to complete both their Practicum and Internship with our agency.
What We Are Looking For in You
Strong candidates will demonstrate:
  • The ability to build therapeutic alliances while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Initiative, time management, and comfort with multitasking in a clinical team setting
  • Competence working with diverse populations across the lifespan
  • Familiarity with the DSM-5-TR, evidence-based treatment modalities, and clinical terminology
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort working in a fully electronic environment

What We Offer
  • A flat monthly stipend of $1,000, with bonus opportunities based on performance. Stipend begins upon successful completion of all required onboarding and training, typically within one to two weeks of start.
  • Individual and group clinical supervision by licensed clinicians
  • Experience within a CARF-accredited organization with an active quality improvement culture
  • Exposure to a school-based client population, with opportunities to develop skills in individual and family psychotherapy, mental health case management, group facilitation, and community outreach

This is a school-based position embedded within a middle school setting. Interns provide direct clinical services to middle school-aged youth during regular school hours. Evening hours may occasionally be required for family sessions conducted via telehealth, as clinically appropriate. This position is not remote.
**Applicants who are not currently enrolled in a master's degree program or who are seeking a remote placement will not be considered. Please do not apply if you have not met your program's prerequisites for practicum or internship, or if your placement start date is more than three months in the future.
