The launch of the Retreats wellness brand took place on Lana'i, Hawaii in partnership with Four Season's lodging and food offerings by Nobu.  In this location, Sensei Porcupine Creek, Sensei is operating the lodging operation, as well as world-class golf, tennis, spa, fitness, movement, nutrition, meditative, enrichment and body assessment facilities. In addition, Sensei will run the F&B operation, as part of a licensing agreement with Nobu.  Position Description:
 
The Fitness Instructor is responsible for conducting customized programs for Sensei guests, and leading individual services, group classes, activities and experiences while providing a high caliber of service.

Responsibilities:

  • Offer the highest caliber teaching and guidance to guests in private and group sessions, including class preparation and breakdown
  • Conduct all sessions including, but not limited to: insight sessions, workshops, outdoor sessions, post stay sessions, 1:1s, biomarkers, post stay sessions (G5), semi-private, virtual and group experiences.
  • Conduct all classes on property weekly activity calendar
  • Continuously stay up to date on scientific research and trends
  • Evaluate program effectiveness, utilizing guest feedback, and suggest updates to programming based on that feedback
  • Have an evidence-led approach to your classes and lectures
  • Understand the scientific benefits of meditation
  • Create class curriculum and programming
  • Remain proficient in computer operating software systems and notetaking required by your position
  • Record guest progress as applicable and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Maintain working spaces and general care and cleanliness of wellness spaces and equipment including a regular cadence of maintenance duties
  • Maintain complete confidentiality in all guest/program matters in accordance with company policies
  • Comply with all Policies & Procedures and Resource Documents
  • Perform all job duties in a safe manner and abide by all safety policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all company and departmental guidelines
  • Perform other tasks as requested by supervisor
  • Demonstrate warmth and sincerity in all interactions
  • Maintain a professional and welcoming demeanor in both verbal and nonverbal communication
  • Take ownership of all guest requests and be proactive in ensuring resolution as needed
  • Always maintain impeccable grooming and personal hygiene and wear uniform as directed

  • Successfully complete all training and certifications needed for the position
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of all guests
  • Report all faulty equipment, supply needs, maintenance needs, safety hazards, injuries, and other concerns immediately to your supervisor

  • Customer Service - Follow up on complaints, questions, and concerns; respond to internal/external customer needs in a friendly, timely and efficient manner

Requirements: 

  • Be able to teach from beginners to seasoned practitioners
  • Proficient in multiple areas of discipline
  • Responsible for the set up and breakdown of equipment for the class
  • Responsible to set up equipment and clean equipment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to monitor and observe client performance indoors and outside (in daylight and lowlight evening conditions) Must be able to operate equipment, including: an iPad, computer, hand radio, and be able to text message
  • Friendly demeanor, great smile, energetic, calm, and empathetic
  • Able to make sound decisions when in a stressful situation
  • Organized and able to prioritize

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in physiology, kinesiology, athletic training, physical therapy and/or physical education with an advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years' work experience in leading group classes and personal one on one sessions on a full-time basis.
  • Certified practitioner in fitness from respected credentialing body (ex. NASM, ACSM, CSCS, PT)
  • Preferred proficiency in multiple modalities of movement
  • CPR/AED Certification Preferred
  • Preferred experience in hospitality and destination travel
