Job description

Position Overview
St. Petersburg Catholic High School is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and value-driven Boys Assistant Basketball Coach to join our athletic department. The ideal candidate will assist the Head Coach in managing the boys' basketball program, developing student-athletes both on and off the court, and fostering a culture of sportsmanship, discipline, and academic excellence in alignment with our school's Catholic mission.
Key Responsibilities
  • Player Development: Assist in planning and executing daily practices focused on skill development, tactical understanding, and physical conditioning.
  • Game Day Preparation: Help formulate game strategies, scout opponents, and provide in-game coaching and adjustments as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Mentorship & Culture: Model and promote the school's Catholic values, emphasizing teamwork, integrity, respect, and academic responsibility.
  • Program Administration: Assist with administrative duties, including equipment inventory, team travel logistics, and monitoring student-athlete academic progress.
  • Supervision: Ensure player safety by supervising student-athletes during practices, games, locker room time, and travel.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Experience: Prior coaching experience at the high school, AAU, or collegiate level is highly preferred. High-level playing experience will also be considered.
  • Mission Alignment: Deep respect for and willingness to support the mission and spiritual traditions of a Catholic high school.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of FHSAA rules and basketball fundamentals, strategies, and training techniques.
  • Certifications: Must possess (or be willing to obtain prior to the season) standard FHSAA compliance certifications, including CPR/AED, First Aid, and required NFHS courses.
  • Clearances: Must successfully pass a diocese-mandated background check and fingerprinting (Level 2 clearance).
  • Availability: Flexible schedule to accommodate weekday practices, evening games, and occasional weekend tournaments.
