Job description

Position Summary:
The Assistant Nurse Manager in Surgical Services supports the daily operations of the Operating Room and perioperative areas during the evening shift. This role provides leadership and clinical expertise to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The Assistant Nurse Manager works collaboratively with the Director of Surgical Services, physicians, and multidisciplinary staff to promote excellence in clinical outcomes, team performance, and patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate nursing care and staff assignments during the evening shift in the Surgical Services Department.
  • Support the Director in managing daily operations, staffing, and resource allocation to ensure optimal workflow.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing and surgical staff.
  • Oversee patient safety, infection control, and adherence to hospital and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives, staff evaluations, and continuing education efforts.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality care and efficiency.

Position Qualification:

  • Experience as an Assistant Nurse Manager or comparable management/leadership role.
  • Excellent communication (oral & written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains professional competence through continuing education and learning experiences.
  • 3-5 years of experience in related clinical field; 1-2 years management/leadership experience preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Demonstrates advanced level leadership, problem-solving, decision making, communication skills.
  • High tolerance for stress.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal and strong people skills.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in area of specialty.
    Required Licenses/Certifications:
  • Graduate from an approved nursing educational program as defined by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN); BSN in nursing preferred.
  • Current Florida State license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training Certification.
  • ACLS and BLS required and other specific requirements depending on specialty unit (PALS, NRP, STABLE, etc.).

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with all levels of the organization

Must clear background and drug test required.
