Job description

Location: Camarillo, California

Job Summary:

As a Senior Test Engineer for Semtech's Power Manager team, you will be responsible for the design and development of leading-edge System Protection Test solutions for our HotSwitch product line. The Sr. Test Engineer reports directly to the Director of Engineering and interfaces with Design, Applications, Marketing, and Product Engineers. You will be responsible for all phases of new product test development life-cycle from definition through production release for all new products in development in the System Protection NPI team. This includes the development of full production and characterization test solutions including hardware design, layout, software design, debugging, ATE to bench correlation, test solution robustness testing (spike checking, R&R checks, etc), and full test transfer to production environment all with the optimal test time for lowest product cost. This position will also be unique in that it also has the responsibility of transfer of test solutions from OSAT FT developments to local REL test setup including scheduling REL starts and supporting any test issues during REL testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Full test transfer to Reliability testing environment including test support during REL for all test solutions in the SP NPI team.

  • Develop characterization and production final test solutions for all System Protection NPI products

  • Design test hardware, software, and debug each

  • ATE to bench correlation

  • Test solution robustness (spike checking, R&R checks, etc)

  • Test documentation using phase review system

  • Develop new test methods for improved test time, product robustness, and quality

  • Full test transfer to Production test environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience as a Power Test Engineer or related occupation in the semiconductor industry

  • Qualifying experience should include the following areas:

    • Deep understanding of PMIC architectures (buck/boost converters, LDOS, etc) and/or Hot Switch controllers

    • Knowledge of analog/mixed-signal test methodologies

    • ATE (Automatic Test Equipment) experience: Teradyne (J750, Microflex uFLEX, ETS) or Eagles

    • Knowledge of reliability testing (HTOL, TC, HAST)

    • Test program development (IG-XL, SmartTest, C++, Python)

    • Understanding ofEDA tool. Knowledge of Altium Designeris an advantage

    • Parametric testing, functional testing, and characterization

    • Statistical analysis and yield optimization

    • DFT (Design for Test) and testability analysis

    • Correlation studies (ATE-to-bench, ATE-to-ATE, wafer-to-final test)

    • Cross-functional team collaboration (Design, Product Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing)

    • Strong cross-cultural communication skills and the ability to work with global teams across U.S. and Asia time zones.

    • NPI (New Product Introduction) test planning and execution

    • Multi-project coordination across product lines

    • Schedule management and meeting product launch timelines

    • Quality Systems: Six Sigma, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to take ownership and work autonomously

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electronics Engineering

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with testing hot switch products

  • Expertise with Microflex / uFlex

  • Cost Management: Test cost modeling, COGS reduction, capital equipment planning

  • Supplier Management: OSAT relationships, contract negotiation

  • Compliance: Automotive (AEC-Q100), Industrial standards, Customer-specific requirements

  • Understanding of DC-DC converter topologies and control loops

  • Experience with automotive qualification (AEC-Q100)

  • High power discrete device testing experience

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electronics Engineering
