How to become a remote ETL Informatica developer?

The qualifications that you need to start working as a remote ETL Informatica developer include computer and database maintenance skills and an understanding of Informatica software and Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes. Most employers expect at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer information systems. These positions also require SQL programming abilities. Informatica also offers professional certifications. You can pursue specialist certification as an Informatica PowerCenter Developer, an Informatica PowerCenter Administrator, or developer who specializes in data quality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote ETL Informatica developer?

To thrive as an ETL Informatica Developer (Remote), you need strong SQL skills, data warehousing knowledge, and experience with Informatica PowerCenter, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with databases like Oracle or SQL Server, version control systems, and certifications such as Informatica Certified Professional are commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective remote communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure efficient data integration, high-quality deliverables, and smooth collaboration in distributed teams.

What are some common challenges ETL Informatica developers face when working remotely, and how can they be addressed?

Remote ETL Informatica Developers often face challenges such as coordinating with distributed teams across different time zones, ensuring secure access to sensitive data, and troubleshooting complex data issues without immediate onsite support. To address these, it's important to establish clear communication channels, use secure VPNs or remote desktop solutions for accessing development environments, and participate in regular virtual meetings to stay aligned with project goals. Leveraging collaborative tools and maintaining thorough documentation also helps in overcoming remote work obstacles and ensures smooth project delivery.

Job description

About Bold Orange:

Bold Orange (BOCO) is a customer experience company. We believe authentic human connections are the single most important driver of business and societal progress. We exist to create these connections across the customer lifecycle, from acquisition to engagement to retention. Our culture is one of curiosity, collaboration, proactivity and always bringing the outside, future focused perspective to our clients.
Position Summary:

We are looking for a Software Engineer, Data to join our growing technology team. This is a hands-on, data-focused engineering role centered on Snowflake. You’ll design data models, build and optimize pipelines, and turn raw client data into reliable, well-governed analytics and activation platforms. You’ll pair that data work with back-end and DevOps engineering across multiple client engagements, collaborating closely with project managers, developers, and client stakeholders to deliver scalable, performant solutions. Snowflake powers a SaaS platform we operate and a growing share of our data work, and it’s where we’re investing to get stronger, so deep, demonstrable Snowflake expertise is the primary focus of this role. You may also work with Redshift and Databricks, which we use internally and on behalf of clients, but Snowflake is where we want this person to be strongest.

Duties and Responsibilites:
  • Architect, build, and maintain data models, warehouses, and ELT/ETL pipelines in Snowflake, optimizing for performance, scalability, and cost
  • Develop and tune complex SQL, stored procedures, and transformations in Snowflake and supporting relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL)
  • Leverage native Snowflake capabilities such as Snowpipe, Streams & Tasks, dynamic tables, and external/stage integrations to deliver reliable, near-real-time data flows
  • Own Snowflake performance, governance, and cost management, including warehouse sizing, clustering, role-based access controls, and data security
  • Design, build, and maintain back-end APIs and services in Python and C#/.NET that feed and consume the Snowflake platform
  • Manage CI/CD pipelines and support deployment automation across cloud and on-premise environments
  • Configure and maintain infrastructure on Windows Server and Linux environments
  • Integrate third-party platforms and APIs (HubSpot, Azure DevOps, and others)
  • Troubleshoot production issues across a multi-client environment with professionalism and urgency
  • Contribute to technical documentation, architecture decisions, and code reviews
  • Collaborate with account managers and clients to scope, estimate, and deliver technical work
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team best practices
Required Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant time spent in data engineering
  • Deep, hands-on Snowflake expertise: production experience designing data models and warehouses, building ELT/ETL pipelines, and writing performant SQL on the platform
  • Working knowledge of Snowflake performance tuning, cost optimization, and security/governance (warehouse sizing, clustering, RBAC)
  • Strong proficiency in Python and C# for back-end development
  • Hands-on experience with relational SQL databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
  • Proven experience building and consuming REST APIs
  • Practical DevOps experience: CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, server configuration
  • Comfort working in both Windows Server and Linux environments
  • Ability to manage and context-switch across multiple concurrent client projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical communication with non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active SnowPro certification(s): SnowPro Core is strongly preferred, and one or more SnowPro Advanced certifications (e.g., Data Engineer, Architect) is a significant plus
  • Snowflake features of CoCo, CoWork, Horizon Catalog, and Horizon Context (Semantic Views).
  • Redshift and/or Databricks: experience with additional data warehouse or lakehouse platforms (both used at Bold Orange)
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Azure App Services, or other Azure services
  • Exposure to HubSpot CMS, APIs, or marketing automation platforms
  • Familiarity with IIS, .NET deployment, or Windows service management
We benchmark salaries across industry standards and local markets to ensure we offer competitive, fair compensation. Final offers reflect a candidate’s skills, experience, and location.
