What is an estate planner?

An estate planner handles the assets, insurance, and financial matters for a person with a family, in the event of their death. Upon the client’s passing, you oversee all of the affairs to ensure the assets are distributed as intended and the family meets the healthcare or burial wishes. Experience in financial planning is vital, as well as strong communication skills and legal knowledge. An individual seeks out the help of an estate planner while they are still healthy or mentally capable of making financial decisions. You then help them understand what their family will go through when it comes to tax matters, life insurance claims, probate, or trust funds after their passing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an estate planner, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Estate Planner, you need a solid understanding of estate law, tax regulations, and financial planning, typically supported by a law degree or relevant certifications such as CFP or CTFA. Familiarity with estate planning software, legal document drafting tools, and tax preparation systems is common in this field. Excellent interpersonal skills, discretion, and strong communication are crucial for building client trust and navigating sensitive family and financial matters. These skills ensure the creation of effective, compliant estate plans that protect client interests and foster long-term relationships.

What are some common challenges faced by estate planners when working with clients?

Estate planners often encounter challenges such as navigating complex family dynamics, keeping up with frequently changing tax laws, and ensuring that clients' wishes are accurately documented and legally enforceable. Additionally, they must communicate complex legal concepts in a way that clients can easily understand, and coordinate with other professionals like accountants and financial advisors to create comprehensive plans. Building trust with clients and maintaining confidentiality are also crucial aspects of the role.

Is estate planning in demand?

Estate planning is a growing field as aging populations and increasing wealth drive demand for estate planners. The job outlook remains positive due to ongoing need for estate management and succession planning services.

Job description

Description
Are You the One?
Grimaldi Law Firm, with an office in Hollywood, Florida, is looking for an experienced (5+ years), level-headed, A+ estate planning attorney. The starting base salary is $140,000-$170,000, depending on experience and fit.
We are a specialized law firm dedicated to providing a steady shoulder for clients and their families as they grow and as they age. We give clients the best real estate, estate planning, and probate services. We do this by living by our five Core Principles of Integrity, Compassion, Communication, Teamwork, and the constant Pursuit of Excellence.
Everyone has a legacy to protect, and we want to ensure families have access to critical protections to keep them out of the court system.
GRIMALDI LAW FIRM is a small but quickly growing boutique woman-owned law firm in Hollywood, Florida, that operates like an in-house legal and consulting department for its clients, many of whom are private individuals, forward-thinkers, investors, and small businesses. We want members on our team who are smart and compassionate as well as ethical, professional, and trustworthy.
Estate Planning is Crucial
Do you want to work where we respect the estate planner instead of treating the practice area as an afterthought? Do you want to be a happy attorney? Do you want money? Do you want to earn the respect of your peers? Our firm wants those things for you, too. You help the firm achieve its goals, and it will help you achieve yours.
We are seeking a full-time attorney to work in our Hollywood office to meet clients in person. Once integrated, a hybrid schedule is possible as long as targets are being met.
You must understand and embody our Company Mission: We help people acquire, protect, and grow generational wealth so they can have freedom and peace of mind. We want clients to become raving fans. We strive to deliver an experience that is above and beyond the norm. You will be so awesome that you have a cult of raving fan clients.
Requirements
For this position, we seek an estate planner with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the field who needs no supervision in planning a non-taxable estate. Elder law, probate, trust administration, and tax planning are a plus.
You will immediately be taking on client matters. You will be responsible for handling a load of client design meetings and drafting/reviewing documents. You will review your cases and progress with our owner weekly.
Our Systems
We have written forms and procedures for the estate planning process. You must be willing to fully adopt our existing systems and help us continuously improve them. You would have two drafting paralegals to input data and create the documents you design with the clients. Our Legal Assistant prints and flags the documents, scans, and assembles the binders. You concentrate on the plan design, the document integrity, client education, answering questions, and the client relationship.
You will have measurable benchmarks (work accomplished and income generated) on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
Pay
Pay is at or above market, including the ability to earn monthly bonuses. The starting base salary will be $140,000 to $170,000 per year, depending on experience and intangibles.
Team
We strive to become our best selves. We are a team that looks out for one another, and we all look out for clients. We provide opportunities for our team members to grow personally, professionally, and financially.
Supervisory
As the attorney, you will be leading paralegals and other staff. It is important that you can do this as a member of a team, not as a dictator.
If you want to join an energized team like this, send us your resume and cover letter today!
