Registered Nurse (RN) — Emergency Shelter / Hurricane Response (PRN)

LocationNorth Fort Myers, FL (Southwest Florida)

Job TypePRN / Temporary — Storm Activation

Shifts12-hour shifts, days/nights; up to 24/7 coverage during activations

Pay[$50 - $60 / HR + activation/deployment pay; meals and lodging provided during deployment if you travel for further than 50 miles from your registered home address

About the Role

Essential HealthCare Solutions, LLC is building a roster of Florida-licensed Registered Nurses to provide on-site medical care at employee shelters during hurricane and severe-weather events in Southwest Florida. When a storm is activated, our nurses care for the crews and emergency personnel working to keep the power on — performing health screening, basic care, triage, and emergency response so that shelter occupants stay safe, healthy, and fit for duty. This is on-call, activation-based work ideal for nurses who want meaningful disaster-response experience and flexible, well-compensated deployments. Assignments typically run 24 hours to 14 consecutive days.

What You'll Do

  • Provide licensed nursing care to shelter occupants, including employees, line crews, contractors, and emergency staff
  • Conduct health screenings and assessments; evaluate non-emergency illnesses and injuries
  • Deliver basic care — first aid, vital-sign monitoring, and management of minor illnesses and injuries
  • Triage medical complaints, determine the appropriate level of care, and coordinate referrals to urgent care, hospital, or EMS
  • Respond rapidly to on-site medical incidents and provide emergency nursing care within scope until EMS assumes care
  • Monitor for heat illness, dehydration, fatigue, infectious-disease concerns, and signs of stress
  • Implement infection-prevention practices and recommend isolation or mitigation measures when appropriate
  • Set up and manage the shelter medical station and maintain medical-supply inventory
  • Maintain accurate documentation, incident reports, and supply/usage records
  • Coordinate with EMS, hospitals, emergency management, and on-site safety personnel
  • Escalate serious incidents (hospitalization, EMS transport, suspected outbreaks, significant injuries) promptly

    What You'll Bring

  • Active, unencumbered Florida RN license (or multistate/NLC privilege valid in Florida) — required
  • Current BLS certification — required (ACLS/PALS a plus)
  • Ability to pass a background screening
  • Availability to deploy on short notice and work extended 12-hour shifts in shelter/field conditions
  • Strong clinical judgment and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, resource-limited environment
  • Preferred: emergency, ER/critical care, triage, shelter, or disaster-response experience; ICS/FEMA training

    Schedule & Conditions

This is activation-based work. Deployments are triggered by storm events (up to 72 hours before landfall, through impact, and into recovery). Nurses work 12-hour shifts — including nights, weekends, and holidays — for up to 14 consecutive days per deployment, in shelter and temporary-facility settings. Meals and lodging are provided during deployment, and PPE is supplied.

Why Join Essential HealthCare Solutions, LLOC

  • Competitive activation and deployment pay
  • Meals and lodging covered during deployment if you meet the travel requirements
  • Flexible, on-call commitment — deploy when storms activate
  • Meaningful work supporting Southwest Florida's storm-response operations
