Job description

Buena Vista University seeks qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Esports. The Assistant Director of Esports plays a key role in supporting the continued growth and success of the university's esports program. This position works closely with the Director to foster student development, enhance competitive performance, and create a positive, engaging environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and competitively. The Assistant Director will assist in the recruitment of qualified student-athletes for esports teams across multiple game titles, while promoting personal growth, leadership development, and skill advancement among participants. This role is instrumental in cultivating an inclusive and high-performing esports community that aligns with BVU's mission and values.

In addition, the Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing and managing esports-related communications and media efforts, including social media and broadcast teams. The role also supports team operations by assisting with player and team management, coordinating facility scheduling, and assisting in team events and travel.

Qualified applicants should demonstrate a strong understanding of the esports landscape, including familiarity with NECC, ECAC, MVEC, CCL and other league rules, regulations, and eligibility standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in esports management, sports management, recreation, communications, business, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in esports, gaming, athletics, student engagement, or program coordination
  • Working knowledge of the esports landscape, including familiarity with NECC, ECAC, MVEC, CCL and other league rules, regulations, and eligibility requirements
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and mentor students
  • Experience with or willingness to learn social media management, streaming platforms (e.g., Twitch, YouTube), and broadcast coordination
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support competitions and events
