Escuela Avancemos! is a K8 Academy located in the heart of Southwest Detroit, proudly serving a diverse school community with a high population of English Language Learners (ESL). We are seeking dedicated, student-focused Academic Interventionists who are passionate about supporting academic growth, language development, and the success of all learners through targeted instruction and strong relationship-building.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree from an accredited institution required; a bachelor's degree desired
  • Coursework or demonstrated knowledge in Mathematics, English/ELA, Reading, and/or Science
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working directly with students in an educational setting
  • Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred
  • Understanding of and commitment to academic intervention strategies for K8 students
  • Paraprofessional Certificate
  • 1 year experience, preferred
  • Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students and families
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Paraprofessional plays a critical role in supporting student achievement in Reading, English/ELA, and Mathematics for students in grades K8. This position works collaboratively with certified teachers to provide targeted academic support, implement intervention strategies, and strengthen foundational skills through small-group and individualized instruction.
Interventionists will support the implementation of the iReady program and other research-based instructional practices to ensure student growth and academic success.
Key Responsibilities

Instructional Support & Intervention
  • Support classroom teachers in delivering targeted instruction in Reading, English/ELA, and Mathematics
  • Plan, implement, and assess small-group and individualized intervention lessons
  • Provide consistent, intensive support using the iReady intervention program
  • Assist in differentiating instruction based on students' academic needs and skill levels
  • Use technology and instructional tools to support student learning and skill development
Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with certified teachers to plan and implement intervention strategies
  • Communicate effectively with staff, families, and caregivers to support student success
  • Participate in the development and implementation of individualized academic intervention plans
  • Collaborate to ensure alignment between core instruction and intervention services
Student Support & Engagement
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support both academic and social-emotional growth
  • Support students who require additional academic assistance to improve achievement
  • Contribute to a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment
  • Respond to students academic and socioemotional needs with care and professionalism
Professional Responsibilities
  • Participate in required professional development and training
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office and educational technology tools
  • Support the successful implementation of school curriculum and instructional programs
