Job Summary
The ESL Childcare Worker provides safe, attentive, and engaging care for children while their parents attend evening English as a Second Language (ESL) classes on Monday through Thursday. Children in this program are old enough to independently manage their toileting needs. The Childcare Worker creates a welcoming, supportive environment for children who may speak limited English by using visual aids, simple communication, and age-appropriate activities. Responsibilities include supervising play, facilitating simple games or crafts, ensuring safety, and helping children feel comfortable and included. This position requires patience, creativity, and the ability to build rapport with children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Many may speak limited English, so activities should be simple, visual, and engaging.
ESL Childcare Worker - Evening Program
Schedule: Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm starting August.
Location: Adult Education / ESL Program
Responsibilities:
- Supervise children and ensure a safe, positive environment
- Lead simple activities (games, crafts, coloring, reading, etc.)
- Support children who may speak little English
- Maintain a clean and organized space
- Communicate with parents and staff as needed
- Follow all safety and program procedures
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children
- Friendly, patient, and reliable
- Able to engage children through play and simple communication
- CPR/First Aid preferred but not required
