What is ESG asset management?

ESG asset management refers to the practice of incorporating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors into investment decisions and portfolio management. It involves evaluating companies not just on financial metrics but also on how they manage issues like climate change, labor practices, and corporate governance. The goal is to achieve competitive financial returns while promoting sustainable and ethical business practices. ESG asset managers may use various strategies, such as screening, integration, and active ownership, to align investments with ESG criteria.

How does an ESG asset management professional typically collaborate with portfolio managers and analysts?

They provide insights on ESG risks and opportunities, help develop responsible investment strategies, and ensure compliance with evolving ESG regulations. Regular meetings and data-sharing sessions are common, as ESG specialists support the investment team by conducting research, preparing reports, and advising on engagement with companies to drive sustainable value.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ESG asset manager, and why are they important?
