Job description

Company Overview
Founded in 1989, PanAgora (Greek for across marketplace) Asset Management is a premier provider of investment solutions spanning most major asset classes and risk ranges. We seek to provide investment solutions using sophisticated quantitative techniques that incorporate fundamental insights and vast amounts of market information. While PanAgora's investment strategies are highly systematic in nature, the processes deployed within these strategies are built and overseen by talented professionals with significant and diverse investment experience. Innovative research plays a central role in our investment philosophy and process, and is an essential component of our firm's ability to deliver attractive investment solutions. Investment teams are organized into an Equity Strategies group and a Multi Asset Strategies group. Most investment team members are engaged in original research using fundamental intuition, market intelligence, modern finance and scientific methods.
We are committed to providing clients with reliable investment processes, consistent performance, transparency, and access to our investment resources. Our client base is comprised of institutional investors across the globe, including public & private retirement funds, sovereign wealth funds, endowments & foundations, and sub-advisory mandates.
We are seeking an equity researcher who combines strong quantitative and programming skills with sound fundamental intuition-or a clear willingness to develop it-about how companies operate and how business fundamentals drive stock performance. Exposure to medical or life-sciences research is a strong plus. This role is a key contributor to the Stock Selector Equity team, supporting the research, enhancement, and development of systematic investment strategies and innovative stock-selection models within the Equity Investment group.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct alpha factor research for global equity strategies by generating investment hypotheses and performing rigorous quantitative analysis
  • Apply advanced statistical and modeling techniques, grounded in fundamental insight, to datasets of varying scale; enhance existing models and explore new, data-driven research directions
  • Analyze global equity markets, industry dynamics, and macroeconomic trends to inform business, sector, and market-level forecasts
  • Incorporate domain knowledge-particularly in healthcare, biotechnology, or medical research-into systematic signals and investment models where relevant
  • Translate economic, scientific, and company-level insights into portfolio-relevant inputs

Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong programming and quantitative modeling skills, with the ability to design, implement, and evaluate equity factor models
  • Solid understanding of how companies, industries, and markets function-or a demonstrated willingness and ability to learn quickly
  • Prior exposure to medical, biomedical, pharmaceutical, or life-sciences research (academic, industry, or applied), with the ability to interpret scientific or clinical data
  • Experience conducting empirical research using large datasets and advanced analytical techniques, including machine learning, NLP, and/or large language models
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience in data analysis and visualization
  • Working knowledge of alpha factor research, forecasting methods, and portfolio construction concepts
  • Intellectual curiosity, creativity, and the ability to blend technical rigor with economic and scientific intuition
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex ideas
  • High integrity and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset

Education and Experience (Flexible):
  • Formal education is flexible; candidates with advanced graduate degrees in Finance, Economics, Data Science, Engineering, Medicine, or life-sciences-related fields are common, but equivalent skills and experience are equally valued
  • Typically 2-5 years of relevant research or modeling experience, though exceptional candidates outside this range will be considered

Salary Range: 120,000 - 140,000
Disclaimer: The posted salary range represents the company's good faith estimate of the compensation for this position at the time of posting and the same is not a promise of a particular wage for any individual. Actual compensation may be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, education or skills, and other factors.
