Job description

About the role:

You will be a contract engineer to join our Nuclear Procurement Engineering & Maintenance Optimization team to lead projects related to Environmental Qualification (EQ) under 10CFR50.49.

Key Responsibilities:

You will focus on using industry best practices, including INPO AP-913, to improve equipment reliability, maintenance strategies, testing frequency, inventory management, and long-term plant safety.

This is a position requiring regulatory knowledge, analytical skills, and the ability to guide utility clients through program implementation, technical evaluations, and compliance strategies.

Be a technical lead or SME for Environmental Qualification (EQ) programs.

Apply INPO AP-913 principles to develop Equipment Reliability strategies, including Maintenance Basis optimization and equipment criticality assessments.

Maintain and review EQ files, assess environmental parameters, and ensure equipment remains qualified observing 10CFR50.49.

Recommend treatment rule adjustments (e.g., testing, inspection, and PM activities) for reclassified equipment to improve plant performance and reduce unnecessary burden.

Promote integration of risk-informed insights into maintenance templates, surveillance intervals, and spare parts strategies.

Support client readiness for audits, program health assessments, and NRC inspections.

Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal knowledge sharing and process improvement projects.

Qualifications:

B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, or related discipline)

Minimum 7 years (Senior) or 10+ years (Principal) or 20+ years (Lead) of experience in the nuclear power industry

Direct experience with:

10CFR50.49 EQ program execution

INPO AP-913 Equipment Reliability process

Understanding of PRA fundamentals, system risk importance measures, and component failure modes

Technical writing skills

Added Qualifications:

Advanced degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license

Familiarity with Risk-Informed Categorization and Treatment (10CFR50.69) programs

Lead and support 50.69 implementation and reclassification efforts using PRA models, deterministic insights, and expert panel facilitation.

Experience facilitating 50.69 expert panels and submitting license amendment requests (LARs)

Familiarity with IEEE 323, IEEE 344, ASME, and related standards

Experience supporting across multiple nuclear stations

Knowledge of configuration management, corrective action programs, and RCM principles
