Key responsibilities

  • Own the technical strategy, integration architecture, and deployment execution for launching voice-forward AI agents.

  • Translate customer needs into technical specifications, develop AI agent scripts, and oversee integration with customer systems.

  • Develop reference integration architectures, design secure API-first integration patterns, and manage deployment processes.

Job description

About the Role
We are seeking a Director, Forward Deployed Engineering to own the technical strategy, integration architecture, and deployment execution that enables Hippocratic AI to launch voice-forward AI agents in. This is one of the most technically creative roles in the company - defining how agentic AI connects to customers requirements, and to the technical infrastructure within complex and security-conscious health environments. You will translate customer needs into Hippocratic agent technical specs and iterate with both the customer and the internal tech team on developing AI agents. You will design the integration of Hippocratic agents with customer CRM ecosystems, data lakes, and API architectures, working within their data governance frameworks and IT approval processes. You will own the agent script development, integration architecture, technical approval playbooks, and deployment operations that translate signed enterprise contracts into live, production-grade implementations. You will grow and develop a talent-dense team of Forward Deployed Engineers.
What You'll Do
  • Customer-Facing Technical Leadership
    • Serve as the company's senior technical voice in customer-facing engagements - participating in enterprise sales cycles, technical workshops, and architecture reviews with pharma IT, security, and data teams.
    • Support Sales during RFP and RFI processes by providing accurate, compelling technical responses that demonstrate the platform's integration maturity and deployment readiness.
    • Lead technical discovery sessions with customer IT teams during the sales process - assessing integration requirements, identifying technical risks, defining deployment scope, and building the technical implementation plan that accompanies the commercial proposal
  • Customer AI Agent Development
    • Drive the translation of customer use case requirements into technical specs for AI agent development, from discovery through to UAT
    • Develop best practices for productive and rapid iteration and comprehensive testing of AI agent scripts. Maintain a continuous improvement playbook for script development that can be leveraged across customer engagements
    • Partner with Engineering to define AI agent building capabilities, integration platform capabilities, and technical infrastructure investments needed to support new customers
  • Integration Strategy, Technical Architecture and Security
    • Develop reference integration architectures for the platform's core deployment patterns, including integrations with CRM systems (Ex: Veeva, Salesforce Health Cloud), EHR (Ex: Epic, Cerner/Oracle Health), contact center and telephony platforms (Genesys, Five9, Amazon Connect, Twilio), and enterprise data lakes.
    • Design reliable and secure API-first integration patterns including REST APIs, webhooks, batch and real-time data synchronization
    • Working closely with the Hippocratic AI CISO, own the end-to-end process for navigating pharma IT security reviews, vendor qualification, and technical approval processes - building the documentation, processes, and institutional knowledge that make each subsequent approval faster.
    • Define and operationalize a repeatable deployment methodology for implementations - covering environment provisioning, integration configuration, data migration, testing protocols, UAT, go-live, rollback procedures and production monitoring. Oversee early deployments hands-on

Location Requirement
We believe the best ideas happen together. To support fast collaboration and a strong team culture, this role is expected to be in our Menlo Park office five days a week, unless otherwise specified.
What You Bring
Must‑Have:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical discipline (Computer Science, Engineering, Health Informatics, or Life Sciences). Advanced degrees or certifications in cloud architecture, or enterprise integration are a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise technical integration, forward deployment operations, solution engineering, or technical consulting in enterprise environments, preferably in healthcare.
  • 5+ years of experience building and managing a team of forward deployment or integration engineers.
  • Strong technical fluency across API design and integration patterns and cloud infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage credibly with enterprise CTOs, CISOs, enterprise architects, and IT governance teams - speaking their language and addressing their concerns with technical precision.
  • Comfort working in high-growth environments with limited structure, ambiguous requirements, fast pace, and high expectations for ownership, technical leadership, and cross-functional collaboration.

Nice‑to‑Have
  • Experience deploying AI, machine learning, conversational AI, or NLP platforms into enterprise environments.
  • Direct experience navigating enterprise IT security reviews, vendor qualification processes, and enterprise IT governance - including SOC 2, HIPAA technical safeguards, SIG questionnaires, and CISO-level security evaluations.
  • Hands-on knowledge of IT ecosystems including CRM platforms (Veeva, Salesforce Health Cloud), specialty pharmacy and hub systems, EHR systems, contact center platforms, safety databases, and enterprise data infrastructure.
  • Experience building and leading technical deployment or integration engineering teams.
  • Startup or early-stage company experience
