Job description

As a Patient Access Clerk at Amery Hospital & Clinic, you will assist patients in admissions, check-in, registration and scheduling functions, as well as address inquiries via telephone, email or fax. The Care Model Process (CMP) guidelines are to be utilized and followed for all workflows. 

Primary duties include helping check-in patients for their procedure/appointments and direct them to the appropriate department/clinic/hospital location; print wrist band and apply to patients per protocol; print patient labels as needed; perform bedside registration in ER or inpatient unit; provide appropriate forms as designated by clinical staff and/or standard practice; receive and enter appropriately all patient forms dropped off for completion; determine if the patient needs to be seen to complete the form, and/or have patient complete their portion of the forms; route forms according to standard practice; collects and posts patient co-pays/deductibles/balances consistently and accurately; and assists patients with any follow up appointments at check out.


Work Schedule:

Casual/on call: Hours may vary depending on department needs. Shifts could include day and evening hours along with weekend and holidays.


Required Qualifications:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

  • Minimum one year experience in a hospital or medical clinic setting or equivalent.
  • Experience in a customer service setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience with Microsoft products, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of position related 2-year program, such as Medical Administrative Specialist or Medical Office Specialist.

  • Experience in EPIC computer system.
