Job description

Project Commissioning Manager

Location: TBD - based on project site assignment

Employment Type: Full-Time


Position Overview

The Project Commissioning Manager oversees the commissioning team for their assigned project to ensure safe and efficient commissioning of the equipment. In this role, you will be reporting to the Director of Commissioning. The ideal candidate should have previous engineering or commissioning experience within the power generation industry or for an EPC company, as well as experience with leading teams. This position will be based at one of our active projects in the Midland/Odessa, TX area, and will transition to another job site upon completion of that project.


Responsibilities

  • Familiar with & adheres to the Gemma Core Values and enforces company policies.
  • Leads the commissioning effort for their assigned project including the allocation of staff, construction support and technical field advisors.
  • Reports the Director of Commissioning for the implementation of commissioning standards, project planning, execution and closeout.
  • Assists with project planning including staffing selection, policy development, development of commissioning specifications, and commissioning process improvement.
  • Accountable to the Project Manager for the execution of commissioning activities on the assigned project including forecasting and adherence to agreed schedule & budget.
  • Acts as the primary authorized employee for their project’s commissioning safe work program and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programs.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of Gemma Commissioning Standards and correctly implements those standards for their assigned project.
  • Attends & participates in the project monthly meeting and project kick off meetings.
  • Leads the Commissioning Plan of the Day meeting.
  • Ensures accurate records are maintained for the commissioning effort including turnover packages, punchlist items, supplier factory acceptance test (FAT) reports, operational logs, and others as required.
  • Develops the field commissioning plans, in coordination with assigned staff, that adhere to the commissioning standards, manufacturer, and regulatory requirements for assigned project.
  • Reviews supplier FAT reports and ensures that discrepancies are incorporated into commissioning planning if not resolved.
  • Reviews design specifications, drawings, and test plans to ensure minimal field changes are required for commissioning.
  • Supports Gemma’s on-the-job (OTJ) training and intern programs in order to foster the development of new talent.
  • Supports the Project Warranty Manager for transition to the warranty period prior to project handover to Owner, and supports resolution of warranty claims as requested.
  • Supports engineering with the performance testing process.


Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in an engineering-related field is preferred but not required.
  • 10+ years of power plant, industrial, and/or renewable construction project experience.
  • Strong experience in leading teams in the execution of commissioning activities – leads by example while conducting themselves in a professional manner at all times.
  • Strong knowledge of the commissioning process and overall project lifecycle for large-scale power plants.
  • Experience with client interface.
  • Industry-related training certifications such as Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) or Associate Commissioning Professional (ACP) are a plus.
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to build meaningful professional relationships and work collaboratively with teams.
  • Sharp attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Organized, flexible, and capable of quickly adapting to changing circumstances.
  • Willing to participate in relevant continuous education and professional development opportunities.
  • Ability to work from heights, climb ladders, enter confined workspaces and work in harsh weather environments when at project sites.
  • Must be willing and able to work shifts including day, night, or swing shifts, up to 16 hours a day if needed.
  • Extensive travel including, but not limited to, time in the field, manufacturer shops, and Gemma’s home office in Glastonbury, CT.
