Job description

NiSource Internship Program Introduction
NiSource is currently seeking a Summer Engineering Intern. Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects. This position will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in the field. Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities. Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry.
This is a 12-week summer internship program starting in May 2027, for students entering their junior or senior year in fall 2027. The role is based in Valparaiso, IN. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location to be eligible.
Job Summary
NiSource is currently seeking Summer Engineering Interns at our IN locations. These positions will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in the Engineering field. Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities. Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry.
Essential Functions
  • Work within a highly effective team managing the Chemical & Environmental Compliance Program for all Generating Stations
  • Support data collection and reporting to stakeholders around Station Chemical & Environmental performance
  • Promote continuous improvement within the department through data analysis and collaboration
  • Assist in the organization and generation of reports for Compliance purposes
  • Assist in the monitoring of plant chemical and mechanical systems / equipment to ensure compliance
  • Evaluate trends of operating data, preventive testing, and corrective maintenance performance to identify problem areas
  • Support department Capital and O&M projects for new or existing Process Chemistry / Environmental equipment
  • Successful candidate to start in summer session

Required Qualifications for Position
  • Current student of an accredited college/university pursuing a four-year degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering or Technology.
  • Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study
  • Ability to work 40 hrs/week during the summer
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Proficiency with PC applications and prefer strong skills with MS Excel & Access
  • Proven communication skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good planning, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform duties effectively at all times.
  • GPA 3.0 and above
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Must have a valid driver's license Upon Hire
