We help businesses and municipalities reduce and divert waste, lowering disposal costs and fueling local supply chains by ensuring materials are recovered, recycled, and reused.


About the Role:

The Environmental & Operations Support Specialist role provides critical support for environmental programs across composting facilities. This position is responsible for managing environmental data, coordinating sampling and testing programs, and supporting regulatory reporting and compliance efforts.

This role works closely with site operations and environmental leadership to ensure accurate data collection, regulatory compliance, and effective environmental monitoring systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining the sampling schedules for compost feedstocks and products, including coordination with site managers and analytical labs
  • Maintaining annual certifications for products, included but not limited to Organic certification and registration with applicable Dept of Agriculture departments
  • Maintaining the centralized database of analytical results for all facilities
  • Compiling monthly temperature monitoring data and scale house tonnage data
  • Compiling other site-specific data for monthly reporting
  • Supporting environmental compliance manager in preparing quarterly and annual regulatory reports
  • Periodic review of site data for quality control / quality assurance
  • Monitoring data from remote monitoring systems
  • Troubleshooting issues with remote monitoring systems and coordinating with vendors and operators to quickly resolve issues
  • Travel to sites to perform onsite troubleshooting / /investigations of remote monitoring systems as needed
  • Travel to sites to conduct environmental compliance inspections
  • Training operational teams on system processes, quality control, and regulatory requirements


Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in environmental science, engineering, chemistry, microbiology, geology, soils, or related field.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and hands-on field experience will be considered, with strong preference for candidates who have practical experience working in field operations and alongside operators.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to analyze operational and environmental data and translate findings into reports.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations related to solid waste, recycling, stormwater, and air quality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying conditions.
  • Ability to travel to sites at least quarterly.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Experience in composting, solid waste, agriculture, or related industries.
  • Experience conducting environmental compliance inspections and preparing regulatory reports.
  • Familiarity with remote monitoring systems and scale house data.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental programs and regulations relative to sampling techniques and procedures, composting, stormwater.
  • Knowledge of programs such as US Composting Council Seal of Testing Assurance (STA) and Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI)
  • Experience interpreting analytical data for compost, feedstocks, and water samples.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering plans and specifications.
  • Ability to apply scientific reasoning to analyze data and solve operational challenges.
