What are environmental graphics?

Environmental graphics, also known as environmental graphic design (EGD), involve creating visual elements that enhance the experience of built environments. This field combines graphic design, architecture, art, and interior design to communicate information, guide people, and create a sense of place within spaces such as offices, museums, airports, and public areas. Examples of environmental graphics include wayfinding signage, wall murals, branded environments, and exhibit graphics. The goal is to make spaces more engaging, accessible, and visually cohesive.

What does an environmental graphic designer do?

An environmental graphic designer creates visual elements such as signage, murals, wayfinding systems, and branding for physical spaces like buildings, public areas, and commercial environments. They combine design skills with knowledge of architecture, architecture, and user experience to enhance navigation, communication, and aesthetic appeal in various settings. Proficiency in design software and understanding of spatial considerations are essential for this role.

What jobs pay 10,000 a month without a degree?

Environmental graphics professionals typically do not earn $10,000 a month without significant experience or specialization. High-paying roles in this field often require advanced skills, a strong portfolio, or working as a freelance designer or consultant, which can command higher rates. Environmental Graphics focus on creating visual elements that enhance spaces and communicate messages within physical environments, often involving large-scale installations. Sign Designer specializes in designing individual signs and wayfinding systems. While both roles require graphic design skills and often overlap in projects, Environmental Graphics emphasizes spatial storytelling, whereas Sign Designers concentrate on sign aesthetics and functionality.

How does an Environmental Graphics professional typically collaborate with architects and interior designers on projects?

Environmental Graphics professionals often work closely with architects and interior designers from the early stages of a project to ensure that signage, wayfinding, and visual elements are seamlessly integrated into the built environment. This collaboration involves regular meetings to discuss design concepts, coordinate materials and finishes, and align visual messaging with the overall architectural intent. By working as part of a multidisciplinary team, Environmental Graphics specialists help create cohesive, functional, and aesthetically pleasing spaces that enhance user experience.

  • Work closely with marketing directors, store planning teams, brand managers, and creative agencies to understand their campaign goals—and design solutions that make them stand out.
  • Build strong relationships with enterprise-level clients across verticals like retail, fashion, food & beverage, fitness, hospitality, and tech.
  • Lead complex sales cycles with a consultative approach that focuses on value, creativity, and executional excellence.
  • Collaborate with ARC’s powerhouse teams in production, design, installation, and project management to deliver flawless work—every time.
  • Leverage ARC’s national and international capabilities to win opportunities far beyond your zip code.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of success selling visual graphics, experiential marketing, or branded environments to large companies or agency partners.

  • Strong relationships or experience working with marketing, advertising, creative, or store planning departments.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills—you thrive in the room (or on Zoom) with decision-makers.
  • High energy, self-motivation, and drive. You own your results and go after what you want.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools (HubSpot preferred), Microsoft Office Suite, and virtual presentation tools.
  • Bonus: Experience selling digital signage or integrating physical and digital brand experiences.

Why You’ll Love Working with Us

  • Global Fulfillment – We produce and install projects around the world, so you never lose a deal due to geography.
  • Uncapped Commissions – Earn what you're worth, with no ceiling on your success.
  • Powerful Production Network – Backed by Riot’s national footprint and ARC’s tech-driven infrastructure.
