Environmental Engineering Internship Remote information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Environmental Engineering Internship Remote, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Environmental Engineering Intern remotely, you generally need a background in environmental or civil engineering, strong analytical skills, and coursework in environmental science or related fields. Familiarity with technical tools such as AutoCAD, GIS software, and Microsoft Office, as well as experience with data analysis or modeling platforms, is highly beneficial. Strong communication, time management, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for collaborating effectively and staying productive in a remote setting. These skills and qualities ensure interns can contribute meaningfully to projects, solve problems efficiently, and adapt to the demands of remote engineering work.

What is the difference between Environmental Engineering Internship Remote vs Environmental Engineering Technician?

AspectEnvironmental Engineering Internship RemoteEnvironmental Engineering Technician
CredentialsTypically pursuing or holding a degree in environmental engineering or related fieldAssociate's or bachelor's degree in environmental technology or related field
Work EnvironmentPrimarily remote, with occasional site visits or fieldworkFieldwork and laboratory settings, often on-site
Employer & Industry UsageInternships offered by engineering firms, government agencies, and environmental consultanciesEmployers include environmental consulting firms, government agencies, and industrial companies

In summary, Environmental Engineering Internship Remote positions are mainly remote roles for students or recent graduates gaining experience, while Environmental Engineering Technicians work on-site performing technical tasks. Both roles support environmental projects but differ in work environment and experience level.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on during a remote Environmental Engineering internship?

As a remote Environmental Engineering intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects such as data analysis for environmental impact assessments, literature reviews on sustainability practices, and assisting with the preparation of technical reports. Interns often support ongoing research, help develop environmental models, and may participate in virtual team meetings to discuss project progress. Collaboration is typically done through digital platforms, so strong communication and self-management skills are important. You'll gain exposure to real-world environmental challenges while working closely with experienced engineers and project managers.

What is a remote environmental engineering internship?

A remote environmental engineering internship is an opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in environmental engineering while working from a location outside the traditional office, typically from home. Interns may assist in projects such as environmental assessments, data analysis, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory compliance, all through digital platforms and communication tools. This type of internship allows individuals to develop professional skills, build their resume, and network within the industry without the need to relocate or commute. Remote internships are especially valuable for those seeking flexible work arrangements or exposure to global projects. Tasks may vary depending on the organization, but generally focus on supporting environmental protection and sustainable engineering solutions.

Job description

Job Description:

The Advanced Visualization Engineering Internship provides hands-on experience supporting Intermountain Health's IMPACT Center, a specialized engineering team focused on patient-specific care, advanced visualization, medical device development, digital healthcare innovation, and additive manufacturing technologies. Interns contribute directly to clinical and operational initiatives involving 3D printing, biomedical engineering, digital workflow transformation, medical imaging, patient-specific modeling, and emerging healthcare technologies.
This position is designed to provide meaningful real-world experience while supporting production, operational, research, and implementation activities across multiple clinical specialties. Preference will be given to Master's and PhD students pursuing Biomedical Engineering, Biomechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Engineering, or closely related engineering disciplines with research or practical experience in computational modeling, fluid mechanics, cardiovascular modeling, medical devices, additive manufacturing, advanced visualization, or patient-specific healthcare technologies.

This position is on-site and is not eligible for hybrid or remote work.

Schedule: The position offers some flexibility up to 40 hours per week, with an expected commitment of 30-40 hours during standard business hours (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM). Occasional support outside standard hours, including holidays or weekends, may be required to support operational needs, production deadlines, or time-sensitive clinical requests.

*Preferred skills include:

  • 3D Printing, additive manufacturing, and CAD applied to anatomical simulation and modeling for patient specialized applications
  • In a graduate engineering program pursuing Biomedical, Biomechanical, Mechanical, or Computational Engineering
  • Medical Device Design and Prototyping
