SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Environmental Engineering Manager is an internally focused leadership role responsible for providing strategic and technical oversight for the Engineering Group within the Technical Services Department. This position develops permanent solutions to complex environmental engineering challenges and supports a multidisciplinary team delivering work across the organizationโ€™s environmental projects.


The Senior Environmental Engineering Manager does not serve as a primary client-facing role but, instead, leads engineers in the internal development and review of remediation and pollution control strategies, supports permitting and redevelopment effort, and provides final technical and QA/QC review of Engineering Group deliverables. The role is accountable for Engineering Group performance, including metrics, budgeting, staffing, and personnel management, and works closely with internal department leaders to deliver consistent, high quality technical solutions.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop innovative environmental engineering solutions to complex issues associated with client projects.
  • Lead and oversee the Engineering Group, including personnel management, financial performance, and resource allocation.
  • Direct Engineering Group activities by assigning tasks, leading design teams, supervising performance, and providing final QA/QC review.
  • Identify, coach, and mentor Engineering staff to successfully complete projects and advance professionally.
  • Design and develop remediation strategies tailored to site specific conditions and contaminant types.
  • Interpret existing regulations and guidance and coordinate with consultants to develop strategies related to engineered systems.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications to regulatory agencies, including required documentation, data, and technical reports.
  • Prepare proposals for August Mack service areas and external clients.
  • Collaborate with other groups and departments to accomplish project and organizational objectives.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education: B.S. in Engineering

Recommended Experience: 8 years of experience in Engineering

Certifications: Maintain a signatory credential (i.e. PE, LPG, CHMM, Soil Scientist)

Skills: Strong verbal/written communication skills are a must. Personnel Management is a plus.

Additional requirements: Must have a valid driverโ€™s license, acceptable driving record, and capable of operating vehicles safely

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to apply past engineering experiences to new and different opportunities
  • Ability to learn local, state, and federal environmental regulations pertaining to air, water, soil, and hazardous materials
  • Act as a liaison for the client with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrate leadership skills with the ability to lead and mentor staff, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and oversee project teams
  • Manage, develop, and motivate staff

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • All positions require the completion of a successful background check, motor vehicle review, and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Employees must maintain an active cell phone to ensure availability for work.

JOB CONTEXT

75% or more office (controlled environment), up to 25% field/site visit travel (environmental job hazards)

This classification requires travel to various client locations resulting in occasional longer workdays; and may include extended and/or further travel, resulting in multiple days and overnights. Long-distance drives and air travel may be required.
