Job description

Foothill Farms Veterinary Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team! Our nursing team plays a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and in delivering thorough client education.

In this role, you’ll rotate between seeing technician appointments independently and working alongside our doctors during exams and procedures. You’ll assist with exams and treatments, set up for procedures, and coordinate with your team to manage the veterinarian’s orders. This position is ideal for someone with strong foundational nursing skills who excels in client engagement and collaborative care.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting efficient exam room and outpatient workflow to ensure exceptional patient and client care
  • Maintaining accurate, thorough medical records and treatment documentation
  • Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
  • Supporting veterinarians during outpatient procedures and treatments while providing high-quality patient care
  • Building positive relationships with clients through education, communication, and attentive service

Schedule and compensation:

  • Compensation: $20 - $24 per hour, for each hour worked
  • This is a full-time position working a 5/8 schedule, with availability required for one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday).
  • There are part-time opportunities available for those who are able to work weekend shifts, with some opportunity to pick up additional shifts as needed.

Minimum qualifications and skill set:

  • 3+ years of veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel, or related role preferred
  • Proficiency in the following skills:
    • Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and patient care principles
    • Ability to assist with exams, treatments, and outpatient procedures
    • Experience collecting patient histories and obtaining patient weights and vital signs preferred
    • Ability to maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
    • Compassionate, professional communication with clients and team members
    • Physical ability to stand, bend, lift, and restrain patients safely throughout the workday
    • Familiarity with Cornerstone software and Fear Free Certification is a plus!

In addition to general wellness, soft tissue surgery, and dentistry, our team also provides holistic services (such as acupuncture), practices Reiki, and works closely with specialists for more intensive procedures and orthopedics. Our facility is well-equipped and full of incredible teammates who love people as much as they do animals. Our RVTs are well-utilized and many of our staff members are Fear Free certified professionals. Easily accessed off Auburn Blvd, our hospital is in a great location about 10 miles from downtown Sacramento.
