Career Opportunities with Western Veterinary Partners

A People-Centric Veterinary Support Organization.

Careers At Western Veterinary Partners

Western Veterinary Partners (WVP) is seeking a highly experienced Senior Director of Operations to support a national portfolio of approximately 40+ joint venture veterinary (JV) hospitals. JV hospitals are partnerships between the local veterinarians and WVP, where ownership, decision-making, and financial outcomes are shared. JV hospitals are typically larger locations, with 5-10+ veterinarians and established management teams.

This high-impact, field-based leadership role requires an accomplished multi-site operator who can quickly assess performance, build credibility with veterinary partners, and drive measurable operational and financial results across a highly visible national portfolio. The ideal candidate is a decisive, collaborative general manager who can analyze P&Ls, advise veterinarian-owners, coach hospital leaders, and lead rapid performance-improvement initiatives through strong judgment, executive presence, and influence. The position requires approximately 80% travel nationwide.

About Western Veterinary Partners

Western Veterinary Partners is a mission-driven veterinary support organization headquartered in Denver, Colorado. We acquire, invest in, and support veterinary hospitals throughout the United States.

WVP supports the non-clinical aspects of veterinary hospitals while protecting each hospital’s clinical autonomy, local identity, and community relationships. Our partnership model gives veterinarians access to the operational capabilities and resources of a larger organization without sacrificing the culture that made their practices successful. Our work is guided by our values of integrity, collaboration, alignment, growth, support, and relationships.

Job Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Director will lead the operational performance of approximately 40 joint venture veterinary hospitals located across the United States.

The Senior Director will serve as a trusted advisor to joint venture partners while maintaining clear accountability for operational execution and financial results. This leader will identify performance gaps, establish focused action plans, and drive rapid, sustainable improvements in revenue growth, veterinarian hiring, productivity, client experience, profitability, and organizational health. The Senior Director will also strengthen hospital-level leadership, support the integration of new joint ventures, and coordinate resources across WVP’s functional departments.

  • Build trusted relationships with JV partners, veterinarian-owners, medical leaders, and hospital teams, serving as the primary operational advisor.
  • Align local partner, hospital, client, and WVP priorities through transparent communication and fact-based decision-making.
  • Navigate complex partner dynamics while preserving clinical autonomy, local identity, and shared business objectives.
Financial Growth and Integration
  • Own revenue, profitability, budgeting, forecasting, and overall financial performance across assigned joint ventures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve provider capacity, client growth, pricing, labor efficiency, service mix, and operating margin.
  • Lead the onboarding and integration of new JV hospitals, establishing early alignment and a clear path to value creation.
Talent, Leadership, and Culture
  • Coach hospital and medical leaders to strengthen execution, accountability, financial management, and team performance.
  • Partner with leaders to recruit, retain, engage, and develop veterinarians and other critical talent.
  • Build succession plans, address performance issues, and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Establish consistent operating rhythms across 40+ JV hospitals and prioritize resources based on performance, risk, and opportunity.
  • Provide executive leadership with clear assessments of business performance, partner relationships, and required actions.
  • Identify portfolio-wide trends, scale successful initiatives, and contribute to enterprise strategy and operating standards.
Required Criteria:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced business or healthcare degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive multi-site operational leadership experience, including five years at the senior leadership level.
  • Demonstrated success overseeing 30+ large operating locations across a geographically dispersed portfolio; experience with 40+ preferred.
  • Significant P&L leadership, including budgeting, forecasting, labor management, and performance improvement.
  • Experience within joint venture, partnership, founder-led, or decentralized operating models.
  • Proven ability to influence autonomous professionals, including veterinarians, physicians, and business owners.
  • Track record of driving measurable results through rapid growth, integration, operational change, or transformation.
  • Strong financial and strategic acumen, executive presence, communication skills, accountability, and ability to manage competing priorities independently.
Location and Travel Requirements
  • This is a national, field-based position.
  • Candidates must live within reasonable access to a major commercial airport, preferably in the Central or Eastern US.
  • Approximately 80% travel is required throughout the United States.
  • Travel will include frequent flights, driving, overnight stays, and occasional weekend activities.
  • Additional travel to WVP’s Denver headquarters and company meetings on a quarterly basis.
  • Candidates must be comfortable maintaining a highly visible onsite presence across a geographically dispersed portfolio.

The Company offers competitive compensation along with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision benefits, vacation, sick leave, 401(k), and more depending on location. The compensation for this opportunity is $180,000 - $225,000 + bonus. You will be provided more detailed information about compensation and benefits for your specific location. Where required under applicable law, WVP provides eligible employees with paid sick leave, health emergency leave, and similar benefits programs, all in accordance with the requirements of state and local law depending on the location of the practice you support.

WVP is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, genetic information, or any other protected characteristic. Hiring decisions will be based on merit, qualifications and business needs.

The application window will be open for the next two weeks ending 8/12/2026. This opportunity will remain online based on business needs which may be before or after the two-week window.

This role is not open to agency submissions. Unsolicited or contingent agency candidates will not be considered.
