Stout's Valuation Advisory professionals help clients address complex financial, accounting, and valuation matters. As part of our Business Valuation and Litigation Support Group, you will support engagements involving business valuation, forensic accounting, commercial disputes, and family law matters.
The Litigation Support Specialist position is well suited for someone who enjoys detailed financial work, organizing information, working in Excel, and supporting senior professionals on complex engagements. The role emphasizes accurate execution, well-organized workpapers, financial data analysis, document management, and preparation of schedules and models.
You will work closely with experienced valuation and forensic accounting professionals who will provide direction and review. Prior valuation or forensic accounting experience is helpful but is not required. We are looking for someone who can learn our processes, follow instructions carefully, produce consistent work, and become a reliable member of the engagement team.
What You'll Do
Collect, organize, and maintain financial statements, tax returns, bank records, transaction data, accounting records, and other engagement documents
Populate and maintain Excel models, financial schedules, databases, and workpapers using information provided by clients and counsel
Assist with business and entity valuations by preparing financial analyses and supporting calculations under the direction of senior team members
Prepare historical financial statement analyses, normalization schedules, income analyses, and other supporting schedules
Assist with analyses involving closely held businesses, partnerships, professional practices, and other business interests
Support forensic accounting assignments involving income analysis, tracing of assets and funds, separate and marital property, cash flow analysis, and other financial issues
Organize and summarize large volumes of financial and transactional information for litigation support engagements
Perform company, industry, economic, and market research when needed to support valuation analyses
Assist with quality control by checking calculations, reconciling information across source documents, and identifying missing or inconsistent data
Prepare schedules, exhibits, workpapers, and supporting materials for reports, mediation, deposition, arbitration, and trial
Maintain clear documentation of procedures performed, sources used, assumptions made, and outstanding information requests
Work with senior team members to complete assigned tasks accurately and within established deadlines
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related discipline
Zero to four years of relevant professional experience preferred, although candidates with additional experience who are interested in the nature of the role are welcome to apply
Internship or entry-level experience in accounting, audit, tax, finance, valuation, litigation support, or a related field is helpful but not required
Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial statements
Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort working extensively with financial data
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work with large volumes of documents and detailed information
High attention to detail, including the ability to identify inconsistencies and perform careful quality-control checks
Ability to follow established procedures and apply instructions consistently
Dependability and accountability for completing assigned work
Ability to manage multiple assignments and communicate when questions or issues arise
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Comfort receiving direction and incorporating review comments into work
A team-oriented approach and willingness to support senior professionals across multiple engagements
Prior coursework or experience involving business valuation, forensic accounting, financial modeling, litigation, fraud analysis, tax returns, or family law matters is helpful but not required.
Professional certifications such as the CPA, ABV, CVA, CFA, or CFE are not required for this position.
How You'll Succeed
Success in this position comes from becoming a dependable resource to the engagement team. The Litigation Support Specialist will produce accurate work, keep information organized, follow established processes, communicate questions promptly, and complete assignments consistently.
The role requires someone who is comfortable working with detailed financial information and performing recurring analytical and organizational tasks. Some assignments will involve complex financial issues, while others will require careful execution of established processes, including document organization, data entry, model population, reconciliation, and preparation of supporting schedules.
You will have opportunities to expand your technical knowledge and take on additional responsibility based on your interests, capabilities, and the needs of the team. Advancement into senior technical or client-facing roles is available but is not a requirement for someone to be successful and valued in this position.
