Base Salary Range: $75 - 90k (Final compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications)
This role requires a full-time onsite presence in Durham, NC

Position Summary:
  • The UX/UI and EV Routing test engineer will own the user experience of in vehicle infotainment systems and automotive apps, with a particular focus on electric vehicle routing and charger integration.

  • This person will know the minutia of these systems inside and out, from how navigation plans trips around charging stops to how station status and availability are represented to drivers in real time, and will critique the on screen experience relentlessly until it is clear, accurate, and effortless to use under real driving conditions.

  • They will drive and validate every infotainment and app update that touches this experience, catching what others miss, and will be the person the team turns to as the go to owner of this topic.

  • They will work closely with UX designers, software engineers, and data teams, and will help raise the bar for quality across IONNA's network.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, write, and execute manual and automated test cases for in vehicle infotainment screens and automotive apps, with emphasis on usability, layout, and interaction design
  • Test the integration between in vehicle navigation systems and IONNA's charging network data, including station status, real time availability, estimated time of arrival, and routing recommendations
  • Validate electric vehicle trip planning features, including range estimation, charger stop suggestions, and rerouting behavior when conditions change
  • Perform usability testing on infotainment interfaces, documenting friction points, confusing flows, accessibility gaps, and inconsistencies against design specifications
  • Log, prioritize, and track defects through resolution, working with designers and engineers to confirm fixes meet both functional and experience requirements
  • Support in vehicle and bench testing across different automotive platforms, head units, and simulated driving scenarios
  • Contribute to test plans, acceptance criteria, and quality checklists for new features before they ship
  • Partner with product and UX teams to translate design intent into testable, measurable quality standards
  • Maintain clear documentation of test coverage, results, and known issues for each release

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Human Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience (recent graduates with exceptional skills and attitude, as well as internship experience, will be considered for this role)
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in software quality assurance, test engineering, or a related discipline
  • Genuine interest in user experience and user interface design, with an eye for detail in layout, navigation flow, and visual consistency
  • Basic understanding of mobile or embedded application testing, including manual test execution and defect tracking
  • Experience in test case management (e.g. TestRail) and defect management (e.g. JIRA)
  • Exceptional communication and task management skills to effectively progress discussions with important stakeholders
  • Comfort working with ambiguity and a willingness to learn automotive specific concepts such as OCPP charging protocols and in vehicle navigation systems

Preferred:
  • Exposure to automotive infotainment platforms such as native OEM infotainment, Android Automotive, Apple CarPlay, or Android Auto
  • Coursework or project experience in electric vehicle systems, routing algorithms, or geospatial applications
  • Experience with basic scripting or automation, such as Python, for test data preparation or simple automated checks
