Job description

This exempt position will design, test, implement, maintain and support Power BI reports. This individual will primarily design new and maintain current reports build with Power BI Desktop app and publish to the Microsoft Fabric framework.

Essential Duties

  • Ability to do data modeling in Power BI by creating star schema
  • Demonstrated ability to do data transformation using Power Query in Power BI
  • Basic SQL Server understanding
  • Ability to create appealing data visualization components that create clear dashboards
  • Solid understanding of UI/UX principles and how to apply firm approved theming
  • Ability to do basic business analysis on datasets and report back to data engineers if something is missing or invalid
  • Ability to iteratively improve design after receiving feedback from customer/requestor
  • This position requires constant communication and exchange of information with the Firm attorneys, clients and staff.
  • Perform other related duties as needed and/or assigned.

Reporting Relationship

The Power BI Designer reports directly to the Application Development Director.

Subordinate staff: None.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience:

  • The Designer must have advanced knowledge of writing Power BI report using both the desktop and the web editor.
  • Must have basic SQL skills and ability to communicate effectively with data engineers.
  • Experience integrating AI (Microsoft Copilot) into reporting tools and embed AI driven summaries into dashboards
  • This position should exhibit advanced knowledge of UI/UX core principles.
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience working with Power BI.
  • Must have experience as the lead designer for at least 3 major projects.
  • Must have MS Certificate for Power BI Data Analyst Associate
  • Experience with Python and R is a plus, since some reports can be further customized with these technologies

Skills

The Power BI Designer must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be flexible with learning new technology. Strong ability to work individually and in a team environment is required. The candidate must have the ability to translate business requirements into an application technical design document, and model application architecture within the environment.

Education

Bachelor's degree or higher in an IT field preferred.

Physical Demands

Must be able to move around the office 20% of the time to make copies, fax, file, etc. Remains stationary around 80% of the time. Frequently moves computer equipment weighing up to 20 lbs. Occasionally moves server equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. This position must be able to inspect and observe information on a computer screen at least 80% of the time.
