This job post has expired today. Applications are no longer accepted.

Job description

The Nuclear Company is the fastest growing startup in the nuclear and energy space creating a never before seen fleet-scale approach to building nuclear reactors. Through its design-once, build-many approach and coalition building across communities, regulators, and financial stakeholders, The Nuclear Company is committed to delivering safe and reliable electricity at the lowest cost, while catalyzing the nuclear industry toward rapid development in America and globally.

About the role

The Nuclear Company is hiring an AI Engineer 1 to join the Product Engineering squad and help ship the NOS modules that field teams, engineers, and operators rely on every day. NOS, the Nuclear Operating System, is the software platform behind one of the largest nuclear buildouts in the United States, and the Product team is responsible for the user-facing experiences that make it real: mobile apps, 3D visualization, digital twin interfaces, and the backend services that power them.

This is a hands-on, entry-level role. You will be paired with a senior engineer based on fit and interest, ramp on Palantir Foundry and the team's tooling, take well-scoped features end to end under senior code review, and grow into a specialization over time, whether that's mobile, 3D/digital twin, full-stack product engineering, or AI-augmented interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Pair with senior engineer on a defined NOS module or feature area (mobile, 3D, digital twin, or backend) and learn the codebase, architecture, and review standards.
  • Take small, well-scoped features end to end, from ticket to pull request to production, under senior code review.
  • Help close the NOS module backlog at entry-level scope: bug fixes, UI polish, test coverage, and minor feature additions.
  • Ramp on Palantir Foundry, the data ontology, and the AI tooling the team uses to accelerate product development, and start contributing to them.
  • Participate in sprint ceremonies, contribute to technical discussions, and build context on how NOS supports nuclear construction and operations in the field.

Required Experience

  • Computer science degree or equivalent, with 0-2 years of professional experience (internships, co-ops, and project work count).
  • Strong fundamentals in at least one of the following: Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Swift/Kotlin, C++/C#.
  • Has built something with AI beyond using a chat assistant: multi-step prompts, custom tools, AI features in a codebase, or a small agentic project.
  • Good written and verbal communication, and willingness to learn the nuclear and regulated-industry context.

Preferred Experience

  • Coursework, internship, or project work in any of the following: mobile development, 3D/Unity/Unreal, IoT/hardware integration, or digital twin systems.
  • Exposure to Palantir Foundry, or similar data/ontology platforms (Databricks, Snowflake).
  • Experience with REST APIs, version control workflows, and basic CI/CD.
  • Familiarity with agile/scrum development practices.
  • Internship or project work in a regulated or mega-project industry (nuclear, aerospace, defense, energy, medical).
  • Exposure to a major cloud platform (AWS preferred).

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation packages
  • 401k with company match
  • Medical, dental, vision plans
  • Generous vacation policy, plus holidays
