Entry Level Typescript information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level TypeScript Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level TypeScript Developer, you need a solid understanding of JavaScript fundamentals, TypeScript syntax, and basic software development principles, typically supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, code editors such as VS Code, and basic knowledge of frameworks like React or Node.js is often required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you excel in collaborative development environments. These skills and qualities enable you to write clean, reliable code and work efficiently within a team to deliver high-quality software solutions.

Search & Comparison IntentOften compared for learning curve, job requirements, and career growth

Entry Level Typescript and Entry Level JavaScript share similar foundational skills, but Typescript offers additional features like static typing, which can improve code quality and maintainability. While JavaScript remains more widely used, learning Typescript can provide an advantage in modern web development environments that favor type safety and scalable codebases.

What are entry level TypeScript jobs?

Entry level TypeScript jobs are positions designed for individuals who are just starting their careers in software development and have basic knowledge of TypeScript, a typed superset of JavaScript. These roles typically involve writing, testing, and debugging code, often as part of a team working on web or application projects. Employers usually seek candidates with a foundational understanding of TypeScript, JavaScript, and related technologies, but do not require extensive professional experience. Entry level roles may include job titles such as Junior TypeScript Developer or Front-End Developer. These positions offer opportunities for on-the-job learning and professional growth.

What are some common challenges faced by entry-level TypeScript developers when joining a new team?

Entry-level TypeScript developers often encounter challenges such as adapting to established codebases, understanding team coding standards, and learning best practices for type safety and modularity. Collaborating with more experienced developers and participating in code reviews can help bridge knowledge gaps. It's important to proactively ask questions and seek feedback to accelerate your learning curve and ensure effective teamwork.

Job Title: Junior Tools Engineer

Location: On Site Seattle
Department: Engineering

About Pipe17

Pipe17 connects commerce businesses' selling channels, fulfillment providers, and back-office systems into one automated, reliable flow. We're solving the "post-order chaos" that happens when e-commerce platforms, ERPs, and 3PLs don't talk to each other.

Our AI-native cloud platform orchestrates orders, inventory, and shipments between systems like Shopify, Amazon, NetSuite, and ShipStation - powered by modern APIs, event-driven microservices, and intuitive web dashboards.

We're growing fast, and we're looking for a Junior System Engineer who is passionate about building tools, integrating APIs, and leveraging modern AI tooling to improve developer and business productivity.

We're looking for someone who's AI-curious and eager to learn - if you're excited by new tools and want a place to grow your skills while shipping real impact, you'll thrive here.

Interview Note: You'll be screen sharing, using AI tool of your choice, and then you'll be programming together as a part of the process!

We can provide you an Anthropic API key to use during the interview if you don't want to use your own. This can be used for Claude Code, Cursor, and other tools.

What You'll Do

As a Junior System Engineer, you will:

  • Design, build, and maintain internal tools and automation scripts using JavaScript / TypeScript.
  • Develop lightweight APIs, CLI tools, and web utilities to enhance developer productivity and system reliability.
  • Implement and manage API integrations between internal systems and external services (e.g., GitHub, Jira, HubSpot, NetSuite, or internal APIs).
  • Experiment with and build AI-powered developer tools and automations using ChatGPT, Claude Code, and other LLM APIs.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and product engineering teams to streamline developer workflows, deployments, and monitoring.
  • Troubleshoot system and integration issues, ensuring smooth operation across environments.
  • Write clear documentation and onboard teammates to the tools you create.
  • Participate in design reviews, daily stand-ups, and sprint planning with cross-functional teams.
  • Contribute to unit and integration testing for tools and APIs.
What You'll Learn

Hands-on experience with:

  • Node.js / TypeScript for automation, APIs, and internal developer tooling.
  • REST / GraphQL APIs for integrations and data synchronization.
  • AI tooling and automation using ChatGPT, Claude, and other LLM-based systems.
  • Infrastructure scripting and configuration (AWS, Terraform, Docker).
  • Authentication and authorization flows (OAuth2, API keys, JWT).
  • CI/CD automation with GitHub Actions or similar pipelines.
  • Cloud deployments (AWS Lambda, ECS, or similar containerized services).
  • Observability and monitoring (CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana).
  • Secure coding and SOC 2-aligned development practices.
RequirementsMinimum Qualifications
  • 0-2 years of experience in software or system engineering.
  • Fluency in JavaScript / TypeScript.
  • Experience building tools or automation scripts for personal or team use.
  • Experience integrating APIs (REST, GraphQL, or webhooks).
  • Familiarity with AI developer tools such as ChatGPT, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Replit Ghostwriter.
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms (AWS or similar).
  • Curiosity about automation, integration, and AI-driven developer productivity.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience with SQL / NoSQL databases.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) or serverless platforms.
  • Exposure to scripting in Python or Bash.
  • Understanding of cloud cost optimization and monitoring tools.
  • Interest in e-commerce or logistics tech.
Why It Matters

Pipe17 powers the flow of customer orders and shipments for some of the fastest-growing and best-known brands in e-commerce. As part of the engineering team, you'll build the tools and systems that make our developers faster, our platform more resilient, and our customers happier.

You'll learn how scalable SaaS infrastructure and integration systems operate in production, and how AI-assisted automation can dramatically improve developer and business productivity.

What We Offer
  • Competitive entry-level salary and benefits.
  • Mentorship from senior engineers and architects.
  • Exposure to real production SaaS environments.
  • Flexible, remote-friendly culture.
  • Clear path to mid-level roles in Systems, DevOps, or AI + Integrations Engineering.
How We Work

We value clarity, curiosity, and ownership. You'll join a small, agile engineering team where your work ships weekly and directly impacts our platform and internal operations. At Pipe17, we encourage engineers who ask why, challenge assumptions, and love to automate solutions to messy problems.
