Job description

Job Title:
Financial Engineer
Location:
CA - Westlake Village
What you'll do:
As a Financial Engineer within Corporate Modeling & Analytics (CMA), you will develop data-driven solutions that support AmeriHome's Retail Lending division. You will use SQL, Power BI, Excel, and other analytical tools to improve portfolio targeting, lead distribution, operational reporting, forecasting, and business decision-making. Working with large and complex datasets, you will translate business needs into accurate, scalable, and actionable analytical solutions.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical capabilities with sound business judgment and the ability to communicate complex data concepts clearly to both technical teams and business leaders. Success in this role requires intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, personal accountability, and the initiative to independently ask questions, investigate problems, and recommend solutions in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
Day-to-Day responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Data Engineering & Analytical Solutions
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable datasets, SQL processes, analytical tools, and reporting solutions that support Retail Lending strategy and operations.
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, diagnose business issues, and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Apply strong data validation and quality-control practices to ensure analytical outputs are accurate, reliable, and decision-ready.

Portfolio Targeting & Decision Analytics
  • Develop and enhance analytical processes that identify and prioritize borrower opportunities within AmeriHome's mortgage servicing portfolio.
  • Evaluate borrower eligibility, product fit, expected profitability, operational constraints, and other factors that influence lead selection and campaign strategy.
  • Support the ongoing measurement and optimization of our proprietary lead scoring model, recapture metrics, and portfolio-targeting strategies.

Reporting & Business Intelligence
  • Build and maintain Power BI dashboards, KPI scorecards, and recurring management reporting.
  • Create reporting frameworks that provide visibility into the retail funnel, operational performance, cycle times, portfolio recapture, and business outcomes.
  • Transform complex analysis into clear insights and recommendations for leadership and frontline business teams.

Stakeholder Partnership & Communication
  • Partner with leaders and stakeholders across Retail Sales, Marketing, Operations, Capital Markets, Servicing, and Technology to understand business needs and develop effective data solutions.
  • Explain technical methodologies, assumptions, limitations, and results in clear business terms.
  • Present findings and recommendations with the appropriate level of detail for both technical audiences and senior business leaders.

Automation & Process Improvement
  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate manual reporting, data preparation, lead-generation, and decision-support processes.
  • Develop scalable solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, consistency, and speed of execution.
  • Evaluate existing processes with a critical mindset and recommend practical improvements rather than relying on established approaches.

Independent Problem-Solving & Execution
  • Take ownership of assignments from initial discovery through implementation, validation, documentation, and stakeholder delivery.
  • Proactively ask questions, investigate unfamiliar topics, and identify risks or gaps without waiting for detailed direction.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within a demanding, fast-paced environment.

What you'll need:
  • 1+ years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required; Masters or MBA in related field preferred.
  • Entry level knowledge of residential mortgage industry in Correspondent or Retail Lending including; sales, operations, capital markets and/or other residential mortgage products and services.
  • Entry level knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with C#, SQL Server, Excel and Excel VBA, PowerBI.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with statistical analysis, including the use of tools like R or Python.
  • Intermediate speaking and writing communication skills.

Compensation: Salary range for new hires is generally $107,395.00 - $132,661.00 for Westlake Village, CA. Salary amount is determined by specific job location. In addition, the role may be eligible for annual bonus/incentives earned.
