About the Role

We’re looking for a curious, Python-fluent Data Analyst to join our team at Sunlight Financial. In this role, you’ll sit at the intersection of data engineering, business intelligence, and emerging AI, helping our company deliver smarter financing experiences to home improvement customers across the country.

You’ll work closely with the Credit & Pricing team and collaborate across Finance, Underwriting, Product, Engineering, and Sales to turn raw data into reliable pipelines, actionable insights, and tools that drive real business decisions. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves to build, automate, and explore and who’s excited about integrating LLM and AI capabilities into everyday data workflows.

Application Instructions
To be considered for this position, please include the exact job title, "Data Analyst" in red font at the very top of your resume. Applications that do not include this requirement may not be considered.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain data pipelines — design, automate, and monitor workflows that move and transform data reliably across our systems.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports — create clear, accurate reporting that stakeholders across the business can trust and act on.
  • Conduct ad hoc analysis — respond to business questions from Sales, Finance, Underwriting, and Product teams with timely, well-structured analysis.
  • Integrate AI and LLM capabilities — work with APIs such as OpenAI and Claude to explore and implement AI-assisted automation within our data workflows.
  • Support cross-functional data needs — partner with Product, Engineering, and customer-facing teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Contribute to data quality and documentation — help maintain standards, definitions, and documentation that keep our data trustworthy and scalable.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of hands-on experience working with Python in professional or project-based settings; we want to see Python used in multiple contexts across your background (e.g., data wrangling, automation, analysis, API integrations).
  • Strong SQL skills with experience querying and transforming real-world datasets.
  • Experience building or contributing to data pipelines or automated workflows.
  • Familiarity with dashboard/reporting tools and a track record of delivering clear data visualizations.
  • Comfort working with APIs and integrating external data services.
  • Strong written and verbal communication — you can explain technical work to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, or similar).
  • Exposure to the financial services, fintech, or lending space.
  • Familiarity with data quality practices, testing, or documentation standards.
  • Experience in a startup or fast-moving team environment.

Why Join Us?

This is a high-impact role on Sunlight Financial’s Credit & Pricing team. You will work directly with the Credit & Pricing team and collaborate across Finance, Underwriting, Product, Engineering, and Sales to turn raw data into pipelines, insights, and tools that drive real business decisions. Join a fast-evolving, data-driven team where your work makes a real difference.
