What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

While most entry-level solar engineers earn significantly less, senior or specialized engineers with extensive experience, advanced certifications, or leadership roles in large renewable energy projects can potentially earn salaries approaching or exceeding $500,000 annually. Such high earnings are typically associated with executive positions, consulting roles, or engineers working in high-cost regions with substantial project scope.

What types of projects do Entry Level Solar Engineers typically work on, and how are responsibilities assigned within the team?

Entry Level Solar Engineers often participate in the design, analysis, and installation of residential, commercial, or utility-scale solar energy systems. Responsibilities are usually distributed based on project phases, with junior engineers focusing on tasks like site assessments, CAD drafting, energy output calculations, and supporting senior engineers during project development. Collaboration is key; entry-level engineers regularly coordinate with project managers, electricians, and other engineering disciplines to ensure projects meet technical standards and deadlines. This role provides a hands-on introduction to the solar industry and offers opportunities to gradually take on more complex assignments as experience grows.

What is the difference between Entry Level Solar Engineer vs Entry Level Renewable Energy Technician?

AspectEntry Level Solar EngineerEntry Level Renewable Energy Technician

Work EnvironmentDesign, planning, and technical analysis in office and fieldInstallation, maintenance, and troubleshooting on-site
Employer & Industry UsageSolar companies, engineering firms, renewable energy projectsRenewable energy companies, installation contractors, service providers

While both roles support renewable energy initiatives, Entry Level Solar Engineers focus on designing and planning solar systems, requiring engineering knowledge. In contrast, Entry Level Renewable Energy Technicians handle installation and maintenance, emphasizing hands-on technical skills. Understanding these differences helps job seekers align their skills and career goals with the appropriate role.

What does an Entry Level Solar Engineer do?

An Entry Level Solar Engineer assists in the design, installation, and maintenance of solar energy systems. Their responsibilities often include conducting site assessments, creating technical drawings, performing basic calculations for system sizing, and supporting project management tasks. They also help troubleshoot issues, ensure compliance with safety standards, and stay updated on the latest solar technologies. This role provides foundational experience for a career in renewable energy engineering.

What engineers make $200,000 a year?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum, aerospace, or software engineering can earn $200,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced skills, and certifications. Entry-level solar engineers typically earn lower salaries, but experienced professionals in high-demand areas or with managerial roles may reach or exceed this income level.

How to get into solar engineering?

To become an entry-level solar engineer, obtain a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or renewable energy engineering. Gaining hands-on experience through internships, developing skills in solar design software, and earning relevant certifications like NABCEP can improve job prospects in the field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Solar Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Solar Engineer, you need a solid understanding of electrical or mechanical engineering principles, basic solar energy concepts, and typically a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with AutoCAD, PVsyst, and other solar design software, as well as knowledge of relevant codes and standards, is commonly expected. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are important soft skills in this role. These skills ensure accurate system design, regulatory compliance, and successful project collaboration in the renewable energy sector.

How to get into solar with no experience?

Entry level solar engineers can start by gaining basic knowledge of solar energy systems through online courses or certifications, such as NABCEP entry-level programs. Practical experience can be built through internships, volunteering, or entry-level technician roles that develop skills in system installation, maintenance, and safety protocols.

Job description

QE Solar is one of the nation's largest independent solar and BESS operations and maintenance providers, with over 15 years of operating experience. We manage 10 GW of solar and 7.5 GWh of BESS across 44 states, supporting asset owners with multi-hundred MW utility solar projects and large standalone BESS systems. We're pure-play O&M. That focus means our entire organization is built around one thing: keeping solar and storage assets running well. Our technicians carry broad OEM certifications, and our in-house capabilities span MV/HV electrical, vegetation management, engineering, and capital improvements, to streamline asset management for project owners.
QE Solar is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Accountant to support core general ledger accounting and daily cash operations for our growing, multi-entity organization. This is an entry-level, hands-on GL role suited to a recent accounting graduate or an experienced bookkeeper ready to step into accounting. The right candidate will live in the general ledger, own cash clearing and bank reconciliations, and help keep our month-end close on schedule and audit-ready. We're looking for a strong grounding in GAAP, a bias for clean and timely reconciliations, and the discipline to chase down and resolve discrepancies without being asked twice.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & GAAP
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain accurate and complete general ledger records across multiple entities.
  • Own assigned balance sheet account reconciliations, with clear support and documentation.
  • Apply GAAP principles to recurring transactions and flag items requiring technical judgment to the Controller.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes and supporting schedules.

Cash & Bank Reconciliation
  • Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations across all operating and entity accounts.
  • Clear cash daily - match deposits, payments, and transfers; identify and resolve unreconciled and in-transit items.
  • Investigate and clear reconciling items promptly, escalating aged or unexplained items.
  • Maintain accurate cash records and ensure the GL ties to bank activity at close.
  • Support cash positioning and reporting as needed.

Accounts Payable & Receivable
  • Process vendor invoices and employee expense reports.
  • Assist with customer invoicing and collections activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment processing.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and customer accounts.

Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Assist in preparing financial reports and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain audit-ready records and accounting documentation.
  • Support data gathering for internal and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures.
  • Identify and implement improvements to reconciliation and close workflows.

Qualifications
  • This is an entry-level accounting role open to a range of backgrounds. We'll consider recent graduates with a degree in Accounting or Finance, as well as experienced bookkeepers (senior bookkeeper level) looking to grow into accounting. A degree is a plus but not required - strong hands-on experience with general ledger work and account reconciliations carries equal weight.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and core accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated experience performing bank reconciliations and clearing cash, or coursework/internship exposure for recent graduates.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience supporting multi-entity organizations.
  • Exposure to project-based accounting, construction, energy, or service industries.
  • Familiarity with high-volume reconciliation environments.

The physical and mental demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

โ€ข Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, and standard office equipment
โ€ข Ability to view multiple monitors and analyze data for extended periods
โ€ข Effective verbal and written communication skills, including participation in meetings and technical discussions
โ€ข Occasionally standing, walking, and moving throughout the office or facility
โ€ข Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds, as needed
