Entry Level Slp information

What is an entry level speech-language pathologist?

Entry level SLPs are Speech-Language Pathologists who are just starting their careers, often having recently completed their master's degree and clinical fellowship. They assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults. Entry level SLPs work in various settings, including schools, hospitals, clinics, and private practices, typically under the supervision or mentorship of more experienced SLPs as they work toward full licensure or certification.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an entry level speech-language pathologist?

To thrive as an Entry Level SLP, you need a master's degree in speech-language pathology, clinical experience through supervised practicums, and state licensure or ASHA certification. Familiarity with assessment tools, therapy materials, and electronic documentation systems is typically required. Strong interpersonal communication, patience, and problem-solving skills help SLPs connect with clients and collaborate with families and other professionals. These skills and qualifications ensure effective treatment planning and positive client outcomes in diverse clinical settings.

What are common challenges faced by entry level speech-language pathologists and how can they overcome them?

Entry-level SLPs often encounter challenges such as managing a diverse caseload, adapting to various documentation requirements, and building rapport with patients and families. Balancing these demands while developing clinical decision-making skills can feel overwhelming at first. Seeking mentorship from experienced colleagues, actively participating in team meetings, and utilizing continuing education resources can help new SLPs navigate these hurdles and grow their confidence in the role.

Job description

Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
Bibb County Schools - Georgia
In-Person Preferred | Virtual Considered (Experienced Candidates Only)
If you're an SLP who values real connection with students-but also has the flexibility to adapt when needed-this opportunity gives you both.
We're partnering with Bibb County School District to support their students for the upcoming school year. The district strongly prefers clinicians who can be onsite and embedded in the school community, but will consider highly experienced virtual SLPs if necessary.
What You'll Do
  • Provide speech-language therapy services to a K-12 caseload
  • Conduct evaluations, develop IEPs, and monitor student progress
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, staff, and families
  • Maintain compliant and timely documentation
  • Deliver engaging, student-centered therapy sessions (in-person or virtual if applicable)
In-Person Experience (Preferred)
There's something different about being in the building-seeing progress in real time, collaborating face-to-face with teachers, and becoming part of the school community. This role is designed for SLPs who want that level of connection and impact.
Virtual Option
For clinicians with strong teletherapy and school-based experience, a virtual placement may be considered. This is not an entry-level teletherapy role-you must be confident managing a caseload independently, maintaining engagement, and navigating virtual platforms seamlessly.
Requirements
  • Active Georgia SLP license (or ability to obtain quickly)
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP)
  • School-based experience required
  • Virtual candidates must have proven teletherapy experience
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while staying connected with the team
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • 12-month payroll option for consistent income
  • License and CEU reimbursement
  • 401(k) with up to 4% company match
  • Paid Time off
  • Employee discount program (travel, events, and more)
Why This Role with CTC
We're not just filling a position-we're building a relationship.
At Comprehensive Therapy Consultants, we focus on:
  • Therapist-first support (you'll always have a real person in your corner)
  • Transparency in pay and placement
  • Consistent communication-no guessing, no chasing updates
  • Long-term career support, not just a single assignment
Location Perks - Bibb County, GA
Located in central Georgia, Bibb County (Macon area) offers:
  • A lower cost of living compared to major metro areas
  • A growing arts and music scene
  • Easy access to Atlanta and other major cities
  • A strong sense of community-especially within the school system
