Summary/Objective
The Perioperative Circulator RN is accountable for the quality of care of nursing care rendered to patients. The Circulator assumes responsibility for assessing, diagnosing, identifying outcomes, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care of patients. Additionally, the Circulator role includes directing and supervising nursing care for patients in the perioperative setting. The Circulator is responsible for determining the educational and competency level of assistive personnel to whom he/she is delegating care.
Essential Job Duties
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  1. Collects patient health data that are relevant to the operative or invasive procedure and analyzes the data to determine nursing diagnosis and identifies expected outcomes that are unique to the patient.
  2. Develops an individualized plan of care to attain expected outcomes and implements the identified plan of care
  3. Provides assistance with preparation of the patient to include, but not limited to: proper positioning, prepping, pre-operative medication, and proper use of body mechanics.
  4. Demonstrates competency to properly handle and document all specimens,
  5. Consistently implements operational standards which promote the maintenance of patient rights including, but not limited to: protection of patient privacy, explanation of treatment processes, and maintenance of confidentiality of patient information, ethical considerations, and handling complaints.
  6. Assist staff in the set up and tear down of supplies and equipment in the operating room.

Required Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
1-3 years related experience
Required License/Certifications
Current RN license in the state of Texas
BLS certification
