Job description

At KLH Engineers, our team of engineers, surveyors, and drafters, works on projects that ensure safe drinking water gets where it needs to go, wastewater is properly treated, and stormwater stays under control. Since 1982, we've partnered with numerous municipal clients across Pennsylvania, delivering top-notch services in water, wastewater, stormwater, and general municipal engineering. We bring creativity, technical excellence, and practicality to every project, ensuring our engineering solutions not only work but also make life a little easier for everyone.
We're currently looking for a Control Systems Engineer / Technician to join our growing SCADA group in our Pittsburgh, PA office. This role is well-suited for someone with networking/computer skills and hands-on electrical/electronics experience. If you enjoy working with PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems, and want to make an impact on critical infrastructure projects, you'll fit right in.
What You'll Do:
  • Design, program, test, and commission SCADA systems, PLCs, and HMIs.
  • Configure and manage SCADA networks, including firewalls, modems, managed switches, VLANs, VPN, and related equipment.
  • Perform field installations, startups, and training for automation projects.
  • Troubleshoot and service PLCs, HMIs, and related control systems for a wide range of clients.
  • Develop control system upgrades and retrofits, primarily with Allen Bradley/Rockwell platforms.
  • Collaborate with drafting, electrical design, and engineering peers to deliver successful projects.
  • Travel to client sites, in western Pennsylvania, with most work local to the Pittsburgh area.

Who You Are:
  • You hold an Electro-Mechanical degree or have relevant experience in control system integration.
  • You have 1-3 years of related experience (training may be provided for driven entry-level candidates).
  • You have knowledge of instrumentation and control panel equipment and design.
  • You have hands-on experience troubleshooting low-voltage electrical systems using tools like multimeters.
  • You're skilled in PLC programming (Rockwell/Allen Bradley preferred; Modicon, ScadaPack, etc. helpful).
  • You're familiar with HMI programming (FactoryTalk preferred; Wonderware, iFix, WinCC, etc. a plus).
  • You have problem-solving skills, strong deductive reasoning, and the ability to reverse engineer panels in the field.
  • Process knowledge with fluid flow or hydraulics is a plus.
  • You're detail-oriented, self-motivated, and committed to delivering high-quality work.
